In the settings for Security and Privacy, under More security and Privacy, in the section Device admin apps. It’s there anything listed and activated there? If so deactivate it, maybe it helps?
Having the exact same issue here - constant message of “Fingerprint hardware not available” when trying to unlock my phone, all the options regarding the fingerprint sensor are missing, and the diagnostic tools do not yield anything recognisable in terms of what the fault could be. I’ve had a support ticket in since the end of April without a response. Disappointed doesn’t ever cover how I’m feeling about choosing the FP5 right now.
End of April?? Oh my… I was hoping that my 30 days old ticket could receive a response soon… Apparently, it will age for many more days.
Just upgraded to FP5.UT2Q.B.125.20250605 and it’s still broken. Will try a factory reset later today and see what happens.
Just as an idea for the ones where finger print hardware is not recognized at all in tests:
For FP4 the power button and fingerprint sensor can easily be affected by corrosion. You need to remove the mainboard and clean the contacts. Just in case this is similar for FP5 I want to point you to this .
I posted the fix for FP4 here.
Thabnk you @harryg . I just tried to disassemble my FP5, but unfortunately it looks like the button contacts are not accessible. They seem to be embedded into the metal frame.
Factory reset hasn’t fixed it. I can’t disassemble it any further to get at the fingerprint scanner.
Hi,
Same problem for me.
Has anyone been able to get a response from support?
I’ve had a ticket open for almost two months, and no one has responded yet.
The shipping department couldn’t even get in touch with UPS to fix the customs paperwork issue I had. In the end I bought one elsewhere and UPS somehow cleared the issue in the end and the FP6 is turning up today. I’ll refuse delivery so it gets returned. I expect the refund will take months too.
Support is one of the most important departments. So much so it gets called “Customer care” in some businesses, which is exactly what it is.
Also in the Fairphone business its called CS
