You cannot order from Australia from FP.

I moved your post as there has been some discussion recently, see above. The tricky part is the battery. Btw what is SKU?

Stock keeping unit, a unique identifier, article number, something like that.

thank you! brilliant work!
yeah read about the battery in above comments too. never considered that but it’s quite a bummer. does this mean that getting a battery would be impossible, save for the chance that one might accidentally slip through as with Laura’s case?

and yes as Martin said, SKU = stock keeping unit.
sort of a code unique to each specific product, mostly helpful for two things: quick and easy search, instead of needing to scroll through potentially MANY other similar products and possibly to not even find what you’re looking for anyway; & also making sure you’re getting the right product e.g. for a screen protector or case or something, instead of a cheap knockoff that a retailer is passing off as suitable for the phone but in reality doesn’t quite fit as it should, or something like that.

i’d seen a few fp4 SKU’s in a forum years ago, and initially (when recently thinking about getting these replacement parts) i was sure it was in this forum; but after unsuccessfully searching for that post, the memory became clearer and recalled a few details that indicated the likelihood it was actually some other forum that came up in a search for something.

but the net’s a big place, need a MUCH bigger net than this forum’s search to be sure to find that again. so far unsuccessful

I dont think that there are any third party modules out there, so there is no chance e.g. to buy a FP4 screen that is not the original screen. For sure screen protectors or cases exist from third party provider. I would contact e.g. vireo.de and ask if they have all parts in stock and ask them for shipping to Australia. Thats def a reseller not selling fake stuff.

very true  hence why the part about making sure you get the right product is not relevant to core parts
thank you for your help!

I have a friend in Germany who can send a battery to Australia for me. They checked with their local DHL office and it requires a special service which is quite expensive - AU$124 for a delivery that I believe could accommodate six Fairphone 4/5 batteries. The attached IATA by my reading allows up to 8 li-on cells if the batteries are between 2.7Wh and 20Wh (the Fairphone battery is around 15Wh). The cheapest DHL delivery would be six batteries in terms of weight.

Just wondering if there’s anyone on this forum willing to try this and split shipping costs? Direct message me on this forum if you are.

This is all a bit ridiculous considering the batteries are made in China. It’s a pity the Taiwanese reseller doesn’t ship internationally - that would be a lot simpler I think.

If no-one wants to split shipping costs, I’ll probably order four batteries in January and try to sell the other three locally, with the shipping cost split added to the price

It looks like you can get Fairphones in Australia through Murena now.
I went to their site and selected Australia and FP4 and FP5 are listed. (Less than half what it cost to get mine from Clove!).
You get it with /e/os instead of Fairphone’s Android.
I installed /e/os on mine and most things work just fine. I haven’t locked the bootloader so that might be why my banking app doesn’t work. The ones from Murena come with the bootloader locked. I selected the option to use the Fairphone camera app. Apparently Chromecast doesn’t work except in some applications (VLC being one). I had a problem with the NordVPN app but got around that with OpenVPN.

I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion. When I go to the order page it shows " Please select a purchasable variation for Murena Fairphone 5 before adding this bundle to the cart." and won’t let me add it to the cart!

I was chating with someone who gets computer batteries all the time from China with no problem.
The difference seems to be that they come by ship instead of by air. It would seem the issue with lithium batteries is only when flying internationally.

I’m keen to get my hands on a fairphone 5 in Australia while my current phone degrading quickly due to water damage. I’m looking at ordering one through Clove UK as other people seem to have had success there. Does anyone have any experience with them and Aus import tax that could give me some insight?
Or any better other options?

Also understand it’s quite difficult to get spare batteries, is any easier to order an extra one alongside the original phone?

I got mine through Clove last year. I had no problems with them.
Buying a spare battery sounds like a good idea - hopefully it will get through with the phone.
It ended up costing me about $1500. There were import duties and because it was more than $1000 GST as well.
I installed /e/is on mine.
I am also on the Optus network so have had no problem with the 3g shutdown. Don’t use Telstra - they refuse to let FP5 on their network.

I doubt it’s easier to get a spare battery when you order the phone. There are different restrictions based on whether the battery is in a device or loose (loose batteries being much more restricted)

Hi! I am in Aus and would love a replacement FP4 battery. I just joined the forum and don’t think I can send messages yet

No worries Cassandra. My friend in Germany is planning to try sending a couple of batteries via DHL. The postage is pretty expensive, hopefully they come through. I can get back in touch when the extra battery arrives in Australia.

Hi all.
I found out about FairPhone through Reddit.
To the questions.

  1. I’m feeling strong armed by Apple a lot these days and ready to move on.
  2. I do not yet have one.

  4. I have several local friends that are feeling similar to myself. They are looking for options. The barriers for them (like me) would be finding out how to get them here.
  5. My nearest large town, Mackay Queensland, Even bigger again is Brisbane, Queensland but it’s 12 hours drive away.

I’ve got a Fairphone 4 battery for sale in Australia, listing on ebay:

It’s expensive, but that was the cost of getting it here.
