Fairphones in Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ

Hi everyone, just thought I’d share my experience trying to get a replacement USB-C port for my FP4, and see if anyone could help me out.

I was able to order the USB-C port from Reichelt, so I decided to add on some other replacement parts in case they break in the future too. It took ~4 weeks for the delivery to arrive, upon which I discovered that everything had been sent except for the USB-C port! I didn’t receive any notification that this part wouldn’t be sent, although I checked my emails and found that it was missing in the order summary when handed over to DHL.
I couldn’t find any other website that delivers to Australia, so I ended up ordering directly from the Fairphone website and paying for a UK address through Skypax, who then shipped to Australia. It took ~3 weeks to arrive, but unfortunately the delivery driver (Aramex) did not leave the package in a safe place and it was stolen.
I am pretty disappointed and not sure I want to keep paying to try and get this phone fixed. If anyone is looking for these replacement parts please let me know. It might be easier for me to just resell these and buy a new phone:

  • Protective case (Green)
  • Display (Green)
  • Screen protector (privacy filter)
  • Charging cable

Otherwise, please let me know if you have any advice/experience getting the delivery company to assist with stolen packages (they haven’t been responding to my emails, and I only found out there was a photo of the delivery when I called to follow up).
Cheers

Fairphone 4 and amaysim coverage in Australia

Hi all, am looking for some suggestions on a new issue we’ve been experiencing with our FP4s (we have two in the household)

We are both with amaysim which uses the Optus network. We’re finding an intermittent issue with our voice dropping out when on a call but we can still hear the person we’ve called. We’re running the latest stock OS, have applied all the necessary firmware updates, changed both phones over to eSIMs and even replaced the bottom speaker unit on one of the phones. However the problem remains on both phones.

According to FP and amaysim’s websites the correct bands are supported.

Has anyone else come across this problem and, if you have, how did you resolve it?

will the fairphone 6 work in australia

please dont move this to someother part of the forum it is something i want an answer to will the fairphone 6 work in australia unlike all there other models

Hi Max,
I take it you have read these two threads:

You can’t expect more than comment and advice in this forum.
A reliable service can only be guaranteed through a collaboration between the manufacturer and the operator, so it’s not about a country but about an operator. Operators may not provide coverage throughout the country.
I advise you to ask the Australian operators directly. You will be able to judge the quality of their services from the quality of their replies.
I also advise you to ask Fairphone, though they may well reply that they do not guarantee support of their devices in your country and cannot reply to your question.

We are only user. The phone is not officially supported so you neither would get any official answer. So the only way to find out is by using it and we move such things about australia together, so that all info is at one place.
Only the bigger 3G topic is stand alone. Please accept this.

What do you mean, ā€œUnlike the others models?ā€ I am using FP4 and it works fine. It worked on Optus and Telstra before the 3G cutoff, works fine on Telstra wholesaler network afterwards.

Has their been any comment by fairphone lately re Australia? Or expanding anywhere for that matter?

That would be very surprising, as Fairphone have much more pressing matters to attend to, first and foremost getting their support situation in order, ideally for good this time.

Perhaps you might want to contact Murena about how they feel about bringing Fairphones with preinstalled /e/OS to Australia. They brought them to the US on their own initiative afterall (I’m sure they got some kind of OK from Fairphone for this, but Fairphone themselves neither sell nor do support there currently, Murena do).

My FP3+ died a sudden death after 4 years. Anyone interested in any spare parts? Everything worked fine til the end, obviously apart from the motherboard. Even the original battery still worked fine. Also have a brand new spare battery (purchased in 12/2024 in Europe) which I never used. Based in Melbourne.

does anyone know of phones / brands that share any of the sweet Fairphone principles/goals/general work, but have a built in audio jack?

bonus points for something directly available for purchase in AUS

The only real comparable company in my eyes is Shiftphones a german company, ai dont know if they would ship worldwide, I rather think no, also I dont know if the Shift8 has a headphone jack.

Overall I guess an internet search will help more than asking here, still I move your post to the AUS commmunity topic.

The Shiftphone 8 doesn’t have a headphone jack

The Teracube 2s has a headphone jack and a replaceable battery. It’s not exactly an overpowered device and their update policy is fairly unimpressive, but it might be your best bet regardless: Teracube - The Sustainable Smartphone With A 4 Year Warranty

looking through the website given, it has more in common with fairphone than anything i’d expected!

yeah overall specs are a tad dated, time will tell if i consider it to suit my needs. but it’ll be a joy to have one with a jack once again, from a semi-eco/fair company.
i’ve just contacted support to find out if it can support 1tb microSD.

also curiosity is quite piqued by a ā€˜biodegradable’ battery..
although i suspect it’s replacability is about as unhelpful as fairphone’s for us in AU

time will tell but other suggestions also very welcome
ty for this fam @u_karpatow

I’ve been looking for a phone for a long time that ticks all the boxes. And I think there is one phone coming out that finally does: the HMD Ivalo XE.

My list of criteria is:

  • Headphone jack
  • MicroSD card reader
  • A reasonably good CPU, doesn’t have to be flagship.
  • A FHD+ screen
  • Supports all relevant 4G and 5G bands
  • Easy maintenance, especially replacing battery and screen

And there are many phones out that meet all except one of these things, usually it’s a headphone jack.

There are some Sony Xperia phones that meet all these except that they are not built for easy maintenance.

Several HMD phones come close. Skyline doesn’t have a headphone jack. Fusion has a low resolution screen, Crest Max doesn’t support many 4G/5G bands

Ivalo XE is the only one I’ve seen that meets all of them. But I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere yet.
