Fairphones in Australia šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ

Hey there,

My usbc port stopped working and while I wait for a new one, I did some googling and worked out that you can charge the battery directly outside of the phone if you can find a charger with similar pins. I tired to search for one to buy, but ended up finding a camera charger that I took out of the casing and pushed the pins a bit closer together… it has worked for my FP4 battery. Not ideal or a long term solution but possible option if you just need to charge once to download everything!

QUESTION RE ORDERING NEW BATTERY

Has anyone managed to import a new fairphone battery to Aust? Chasing a FP4 battery if anyone knows of one locally that might be the same size that’d be amazing!

I’ve justed to send a request to reichelt elektronik so we’ll see if that works!

Thanks

VoLTE is short for Voice over LTE. I don’t know if LTE is a hardware or software layer but the Voice part will be software.
The FP5 with the stock Android or /e/OS has the software and LTE.
If your service has LTE, you can use VoLTE. You need to make sure your provider has ā€˜provisioned’ it.
I have received that message, probably because my previous phone didn’t have the capability or maybe because the service provider (Optus) does not recognise FP or the operating system.

Has anyone found a cover (wallet style), in Australia that suits the FP5?
I got a cover at a kiosk that fits but it covers the on/off switch. I have to press in ā€˜just the right spot’ with a finger nail to turn it on or off.
I have considered cutting a hole but don’t know if that would work.

In the settings check best with disabled wifi to ensure nothing is interfering

If not available ring your provider and ask for it to be provisioned on your service there are positive examples above.

And reg this

no its not

Thank you for the offer. The battery is different unfortunately!

Are you in Victoria by any chance?

Yes, I am in Victoria!

Has anybody had any luck getting VoLTE enabled on aldi mobile? Every time I reach out to support I go around in circles until they just say that VoLTE is enabled by default.

Guess it’ll be easier to switch to another provider.

For referwnce, I just ended up switching to Amaysim & it all worked perfectly. VoLTE etc all enabled automatically without a hitch.

I have access to a 3D printer.

I don’t know if that would help?

Otherwise, there are silicon moulds but it might be more cost effective to just get a friend to bring a legit case back here

On second thought, does that answer your questions?

Keen to connect with other FP users in Aus
I have a friend coming back from Europe in 6 weeks

Sorry, team, I’m sure it’s somewhere but i’m having cognitive difficulty these days and I’m failing to find it. Where can I order a fairphone 5 battery to have it shipped to Melbourne? I just got my fairphone 5 today and I’m loving it. I just want a second battery as big ol’ middle finger to google who wouldn’t even let me take the battery out without smashing the screen on my pixel, lol.

Welcome to the community forum.

Fairphone point to authorised resellers shipping to more countries than Fairphone themselves here … https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/17121765976849-Shipping-Costs#h_01H5QMNA4T4WWPBCK5MA2PPH41 … you would have to inquire whether they can ship a battery to you, though, as this is complicated (see the link for more info).

@laura.simic3 … Did your request to reichelt elektronik regarding the Fairphone 4 battery amount to anything?

Thanks for pointing to the Support article anew, I was impressed to find this statement that I had not seen in such unequivocal clarity before. :+1:

We also avoid air freight entirely for our European deliveries to reduce our carbon impact.

Quick and helpful reply, cheers!

Does anyone have a specific reseller in mind? My brain injury is mocking me because I can’t find one that will ship to Aus. XD

I have just checked the clove website, they seem to have the battery in stock and shipping to Australia but perhaps I am missing something and the few steps later they will just state that it is indeed impossible, please have a look - https://www.clove.co.uk/products/fairphone-f5batt-1zw-ww1-mobile-phone-spare-part-battery?variant=41079990648875

Hello,

Yes I searched far and wide from a way to post a battery. reichelt elektronik accepted my order, but after a few weeks I contacted them and they chased up the postage to find it was stuck at the german border and was unable to be shipped. I asked if there was anything that they could do but they advised it was not possible to ship. However, about a month later I received a package with the battery! Perhaps it slipped through. I think your best option to ask someone travelling back from Europe to bring a battery with them, if that’s an option.

Thanks

Since Fairphone mention them as shipping worldwide, an email to Vireo.de to ask them can’t hurt, I guess (address is info@vireo.de).

It’s not an option via airplane, at least. Fairphone say (see link above) …

ā€œSince standalone lithium-ion batteries are dangerous goods and are subject to transport restrictions, your European address contact can not simply ship a battery to you, or bring it on an airplane.ā€

But your package coming through in the end might mean more hope for the reseller path.

hey friends!
clove uk has stopped getting in new stock for fp4, so as they were previously the best option for getting anything fp4 with Australia delivery, i’m hunting for fp4 parts from somewhere else, that isn’t super expensive

don’t suppose anyone has any suggestions for where to get parts from?
i’m intending to get a replacement for each part type all at once, thus not needing to go through this hunt each time a new part becomes not so functional. i’ve ordered a small few from clove that they still had in their dwindling fp4 stock, but still needing all other parts.

if there are no suggestions, is anyone able to share with me, what part SKU’s are so i know i’m getting the right part? (not quite as important for internal parts, but still helpful)
needing SKU for:
protective case (speckled green)
display screen
battery
rear camera
usb port
earpiece
screen protector
