Yeah… I thought the same but I have no power over that. I donnow why you would want a 280 message thread
An FP6 sub-subcategory would be nice.
Well, the core module accounts for most of the CO2 footprint. So when it comes to upgrading this, it’s not far away from replacing the whole phone. Given that plus the fact that new chips may have different pin outs (more or less pins in different places) which may require huge changes in the surroundings of those, I do understand that sticking to one design may be hard. However, for the supply chain it would be nice if at least other components could be shared among product generations.
To be honest I’m always surprised what requirements people have. If that was even required, I don’t find those screws too small to do that during a break, but really: While the majority of people cannot even open their phone, with a Fairphone it’s a showstopper if that cannot be done while cycling?
Okay, I couldn’t check it, but it’s a different display and usually they didn’t do the same mistake twice.
Why I dont want to monitor duplicate threads as I already explained you in your private message you sent me. Yours is way to general (touching several points) to not be moved here. And there is a FP6 category and several topics open.
That alone is not a showstopper, it’s just a considerable annoyance that would occur multiple times during most weeks for many years.
My full pros&cons list is:
Pro:
· optical stabiliser
· compass (not very important)
· a bit more battery
· maybe slightly better in some moral criteria, but that is hard to compare, so I don’t know
Con:
· CPU is a bit slower
· considerably less RAM (very important)
· ShiftPhone 8 has a version with 512GB storage, which is more expensive than the Fairphone 6, but means that I probably won’t have to worry about storage ever again
· I don’t know if I can remap the extra slider (ShiftPhone 8 advertises with an extra remappable button)
· ShiftPhone 8 lets me physically disable camera and microphone
· Shift6mq batteries are compatible with ShiftPhone 8 (and I have three of them, all in regular use)
· …and then also the screwdriver requirement.
The specs are about the same and the price is also almost the same for the 256GB phones.
That said, I do often have very specific requirements that are absolute showstoppers, like kitchen devices without touch interfaces, non-noise-cancelling headphones with a thin over-head bar, keyboards with a specific arrow and Enter key arrangment, … Requirements are as diverse as workflows and there’s always someone who needs spacebar heating.
Does the FP6 have a barometer? And what’s the quality of the loudspeaker? The loudspeakers of the FP 5 are although good. Are the FP 6 speakers a little bit bestter?
Yes, see “Check all tech specs” at https://shop.fairphone.com/the-fairphone-gen-6.
Besides the Fairphone Moments the switch can be used to
- Do not disturb
- Airplane mode
- Torch
- Dark mode toggle
- Energy saver
And who knows, if some important additional option is missing right now, Fairphone could in principle add more options if enough people let them know. I wouldn’t expect such an addition in the first handful of updates, though. I could imagine those will be focused on bugfixes now that people are using the new phone in the wild.
Edit on a side note: I don’t think anyone has reported yet the full configuration options for Moments
Here in this video it says you can pick up to 5 apps to be shown: https://youtu.be/qAB2aTvmry8?feature=shared&t=270
And IIRC is was mentioned one gets to choose which contacts are let through (calls/messages) in Moments mode, but I guess there’s more.
On a side note: The price of the Fairphone remains unchanged for now.
 remains unchanged for now.
Some might remember that the rumours ahead of the launch all assumed a Fairphone price tag of just 550 €. Perhaps the slightly higher eventual price tag of 600 € is partly motivated by not messing up the price hierarchy between 5 and 6.

While it’s not changed on the website. Other retailers have discounted the 5. Presumably because they feel like stock will be hanging around if it’s not the “current” model.
Being able to select an activity/shortcut of another app would make it way more useful, because then people could bind it to everything. At that point, automation apps like Tasker, MacroDroid or XPosed Edge can take over and you don’t have to keep adding options.
I also talked to a representative of the municipality of Amsterdam at the launch event (which is an old colleague of mine), she is going to address a feature request to also add the option to disable the secondary SIM and perhaps also your Android Work profile. That way you can even more separate work from life. The whole municipality of Amsterdam is going to switch to Fairphone (that’s the plan anyway, with the iPhone as the second option). Would be cool if Fairphone can implement that.

A post was merged into an existing topic: FP6 Discussion about screws for battery
Not sure where to post it as it is about screws and we have a separate topic on the battery thing, and it is somehow also connected to handling water damage also mentioned there by @urs_lesse
but it is also more general cause it is about screws’ types and screwdrivers.
When purchasing FP5 I was thorough/cautious/careful enough to purchase an ifixit screwdriver with it. I felt like a rookie in a world of repairable phones and did not trust anything I might already have back at home to be fine enough for my new FP5. I reckon I would do the same thing when purchasing a FP6 - I would have bought a Ifixit screwdriver offered in the webshop and learnt along the way something about Torx screws. I can also accept that a screwdriver is not offered for free.
But there is another one offered for free - the smaller yellow one, that you are to get when you buy some accessories (given you need to screw them in).
The tutorial clips for spare parts for FP6 include a big Ifixit screwdriver, the tutorial clips for accessories include a small yellow one.
Are they interchangeable? Which screws are bigger? Why do we have two different types?
PS. Just had a crazy thought that it would be nice to be able to somehow attach a screwdriver to a case. Like it would be awful to run into issues while on holidays/abroad/in wilderness and having no screwdriver to solve it.
Yes, as …
… the video about replacing the battery you linked to, if I remember correctly, says they are all Torx T5, just that there are two lengths. The screws visible from the outside of the phone are longer.
Also mentioned here …
Three lengths even, there is a very short screw for the cable that connects the screen iirc Would have been nice to give them different colours, instead of just the silver ones for the screen and all the others (in three lengths) black

There’s an AMA with FP announced for Reddit for this Thursday
https://www.reddit.com/r/fairphone/comments/1loy63q/ama_fairphone_this_thursday/
According to the info questions both about the FP6 and the company are welcomed.
Edited to add the link to the thread where the AMA is happening, https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyFromEU/comments/1loy4ql/ama_fairphone_this_thursday/
There are 2 types of screen protectors. One is clear the other is a privacy screen protector. In the picture on line it does appear to be a coloured protector.
yeah only now several days later do I find some detail shopping pages on the fp shop website where there are the dots (variants) of the products and you can actually see a tooltip (classic personal computer).
anyhow, the protective case is still not available on the fp online shop, so much for the environmental impact and fairness and all. why release the main product when many? of the accessories are not available right from the beginning. sad.
