If I could solve my mistake myself by either re-installing /e/OS or waiting for FPOS to have a new enough version to bypass the rollback, I would have no complaints.

That exactly the point of checking that get_unlock_ability = 1 BEFORE any locking attempt

So to clarify:

• if get_unlock_ability=1
  • Locking with newer patch version = OK
  • Locking with older patch version = not OK, but you can unlock
• if get_unlock_ability=0
  • Locking with newer patch version = OK
  • Locking with older patch version = brick

That’s why we (the forum users, not fairphone!) always advice to not lock if ability=0
