Fairphone 6 double tap to wake doesn't work reliably

As the title says. I tried AoD (“Alsays show time and info”) on/off, changing refresh rate, touch sensitivity. Nothing seems to solve this issue. I used this feature a lot on my old phone, so it’s very annoying that it’s not working reliably on the FP6. It’s probably the worst issue with FP6 I faced so far. I’d be ok with using unlock button instead. But it’s hard to press as it’s flat with the case and touching it tends to unlock the phone instead of waking it. If you know what could help please share. If you know some comfortable alternative please share as well. How do you wake up your phone?

For now I think I’ll have to use Pick up to wake, but it’s less comfortable.

Best is to inform support so that FP can work on the software end to improve this. May I assume its worse when lying flat?

I reported to support.

I wouldn’t say flat or inclined surface makes any difference.

A post was split to a new topic: :fr: FP6 La fonction « Tap to wake » n’est pas fiable

On the FP5 there is. a setting to prevent this, its called fingerprint unlock behaviour.

I can confirm that it doesn’t work

Hello,

I have this issue sometimes. It’s seems that screen is not sensitive enougth

I’m on FP5 and it never worked reliably too (for me).

A workaround would be to stop thinking in terms of “double tap” and start thinking in terms of “multiple tap”.

I mean that if I double tap my FP5 wakes up 50% of times but if I start with a TAPTAPTAPTAPTAP sequence after 5-6 taps it wakes up around 90% of times.

Maybe two taps are not always enough…

Ciao,
Max

I tested it now for a day and its not perfect however compared to the FP5 very good. Sometimes it works with 1st double tap often with the 2nd double tap.

I also feel like it got better since I tested it on day 1 of owning FP6. Perhaps software update improved it. But it still sometimes ignores double tap.

For me it works relatively well without AOD, but with AOD it’s very unreliable
Also increasing touch sensitivity helped as I am using display protection

Where do you find this feature at all? I cant find any of these functions (aod). I’m on FP6 with e/os I’m expecting this to be somewhere in the settings but it’s nowhere to be found. I can download this pick up to wake but it’s a separate app… sorry if I’m obvlivious but I’m just switching from iPhone and a lot of stuff is just non-intuitive to me.

When you open settings there is a search box at the top. Try searching “Always show time and info”.

It was reported it doesnt exist in e/OS

Just a reminder: The “Increase touch sensitivity” setting was removed with the latest software update 122 this week.

Hi all, today I put my FP6 in the bike holder and I realized that the double-tap doesnt work… so, how do you activate the screen in a rain case without access to the buttons? Is it possible that the company has overlooked this activation option?

Hi sorry for crashing the topic on FP6, but I do sometimes use the Wave up app on my FP5 for similar cases (when it is in the box). Trying to use the power button when in a waterproof bag drives me a bit crazy. I also use face unlock cause drawing a pattern in a rain is a challenge and toggled the screen attention option on.

I tried a bit around with the newest update today (Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.151.0 📲)
Without always on, it still seems to work reliably.
With always on, it seems only not to work if I try to wake it up directly after turning off the screen.
If I turn the screen off and wait for a few seconds, it seems to always work.
There is always the moment when the AOD switches from very dark to a bit brighter after a few seconds. If I try it before, the double tap does nothing, but after it works.
Can anyone confirm this?

Hi @Kalibri , feedback from the relevant team: This is indeed expected behavior. With AoD (Always on Display) turned On, the double tap to wake only works after the system fully enters AoD mode, which is after a few seconds (roughly 5 sec). So double tap to wake will not work right after locking the phone if AoD is ON.
