Fairphone 5 Protective Case - needed/Alternatives?

@Sander_S How does the transparent cover feel? I bought one from Amazon (Cresee, see above) that fits and looks great, but sadly it has a greasy feel to it which over time I started disliking so much I stopped using it.

Hi @Dryhte , I’m not sure what u mean with greasy…
But this one is not sticky if that’s what you meant?
It’s hard to explain but it’s a bit like a plastic bottle. Just enough roughness for grip, but if one has greasy hands, the grip gets less. I think it’s ok and not greasy.

If your case somehow got greasy, try this: A drop of Dreft on a warm moist towel does the job, it cleans the case and phone perfectly.

Hope this helps.

At the risk of dragging a phone case back into the discussion after everyone else has moved on… I have been using my Bark case for probably eight or nine months. It fits snugly, might have a small impact on mic reception, but not enough to be sure, and is very attractive. It is slightly thicker than others might be, on a phone already bigger than average these days.
What I wanted to mention, though, is that a few days ago my phone slid off a desk onto a floor made of industrial tile on top of concrete. I expected to be shopping for some wood glue, but neither phone nor case showed any sign of damage.
Maybe I just got lucky, but I’m a little impressed. If I had fallen onto that floor, even the wood glue wouldn’t have fixed me.

Hello @PSZ . Two weeks ago my FP5 with the Bark case slipped out of my backpack side case on a hiking tour. It crashed on a stone from a height of appr. 50 cm. Luckily, its first contact was with the top edge of the case. Only two dents that nearly can’t be seen remained. No scratches on the display. For me, the Bark case is still the best way to protect my phone with a unique texture of the nature elm wood from this 200 year old tree from Stockholm.
In addition the grip while holding it is great and the warm feeling is really comfortable.
Greets.

Small update, I replaced my Fairphone bumper case in lovely green with the baby blue Tudia case. The thing I miss most is the colour haha, but the case is wonderfully sturdy.

I prefer the Fairphone one’s slimmer design, I did not really want an “extra sturdy” case, but with a niche phone you don’t have unlimited choice in terms of cases.

I certainly recommend the Tudia for anyone who doesn’t mind making their phone a bit bulkier.

Thanks to @david.quinones, @k3dAR and others for the recommendation and info! Lovely community we have here :relieved:

Just discovered - Biowaves now also offers leather flip cases for the Fairphone. The build quality looks really good at first glance.
Has anyone tested it yet?

Some news about my Bark Sweden wood case for FP5.

My phone fell on the floor a week ago. It was a bad fall as while trying to grasp it during its fly to the floor I punched it, increasing the speed.

I thought my FP5 would never turn on again but it’s still working as usual.

Unfortunately, a piece of wood broke off the case.

I did what I read on Bark Sweden site and glued that piece back to the cover using vinilic glue (3,10 € a small bottle, the commercial name of the one I bought is Vinavil).

Well, after 24 hours the cover is perfect again, almost no sign of the break. And I’m not a DIY expert at all, I have never worked with glue and wood since I was a child.

The piece that broke off was the upper right corner, a piece that’s quite stressed when you insert the phone in the cover. Nevertheless, the repair worked and now the break is almost invisible.

So if you happen to break your wood cover, don’t cry too much: you could take it back to the good old days easier than you think.

I’m really satisfied with my cover :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Ciao,
Max

Extra feedback regarding the Biowaves Smartshell 5 AND support:

My Fairphone fell from about 80-100 cm high onto a ceramic tile floor.

As a result, the official Fairphone protective glass (privacy variant) got a hairline crack at the top-right, while the Smartshell got a tiny 3 mm crack on the bottom-left, along with a tiny, light abrasion spot (5 × 5 mm).

I got in touch with Biowaves support to tell them about it, and they not only offered to send a replacement case, no question asked, but also found back my address on their own, which was very fortunate as I had thrown away the invoice email + delivery paper. :smiley:

So 5 stars for Biowaves customer support as well!!

Which one is the best transparent case FP5?

I would prefer to order them straight for FP, but they don’t have such accessories so I need to get aftermarket ones.

I want a transparent case because I have the transparent version of the phone and it doesn’t make any sense to put another type of case on it. I want it to be simple, to not turn yellow after a while, and to protect the screen and camera lens, meaning the edge is a bit raised on these parts.

So far I have these two options in mind:

Please let me know if you have any of these and how good they are, or if you recommend something else. Thank you!

Hello, I used fitudoos for some time and it got a bit yellowish, so I moved on to other non-transparency cases. You may find the pictures of my case after few months in this thread [SOLD/SENT] FP 5 translucent case for free

Did it turn yellow or is it still good?
And does it also protect the camera and screen? Meaning the edge is higher a bit.

How did that case hold up so far? Did it turn yellow or is it still good?

My case neither turned yellow nor became sticky. The edge around the camera lenses and screen is indeed raised, so they’re protected reasonably well. A cheap product that actually turned out well. I’m as surprised as I’m happy.

I bought this case for the Fairphone 5 for a very expensive price. I was so satisfied with the one for the Fairphone 3 with its beautiful logo on the back.
But this one is a misery…and so expensive!
It’s ugly and doesn’t protect anything. We would say low-end Chinese.
I’m always looking for a silicone case that provides good protection without being too bulky, Spigen style.
If you have any feedback, I’m interested.

Hello!
I’m the one that got Meaghan’s case. Even if it’s a bit yellowish it still fills my needs :slight_smile:
At the center there is a cicle that didn’t turn yellow, I wonder if there was a sticker or something similar that prevented the color change…

A popsocket that was:) my hands are definitely too small or the phone is too big :sunglasses:

I would say the Tuvia MergeGrip, discussed earlier in this thread, comes close-ish to Spigen style, but I would definitely compare it to their more heavy duty cases. It’s not slim, but I have grown used to it.

Hope that helps!

For those of you who like tudia case (like me) but found it a bit too bulky (like me :grin:), just a thought, you could actually be using only half of the tudia case as a cover, the internal one, I have been testing that for some time and I am pretty happy with such a zero waste;-) solution

FP5 Fitudoos transparent case.

I asked for suggestions here and on Reddit for a clear case (as FP doesn’t sell these).

Based on the suggestions and Amazon reviews I ended up buying the Fitudoos Transparent Case for FP5 - https://amzn.to/3N8LK61

PROS:

  • fits well, decent cutouts;
  • protects the screen and camera bump;

CONS:

  • it’s not completely clear, it has those small dots in it, based on Amazon pics, it should be clear;
  • fingerprint magnet;

Btw the screen protector is the Teenrpov one - https://amzn.to/3TNVjLC
