🇩🇪 🇬🇧 Fairphone 3 keine Reaktion mehr / no longer reacts

Hallo Fairphone Community

(google translateted!) I am looking for the component to be changed

I have owned the Fairphone 3 for more than 1 year now, have already changed the display, it worked great, but now nothing works.
The symptoms.
Suddenly everything was black, nothing worked anymore. The battery was actually full … I am charging
On the same evening I tried to start my Fairphone 3 and increased the pressure on the power button, all of a sudden it started again.
But after 1 minute, the screen is black again, I pressed and did, nothing worked, 10 minutes later, it starts again.
I now try a hard reset, all of a sudden the phone shows me 3% battery … I charge again, hard reset works, battery display is full, 20 minutes later, black screen, now it no longer reacts at all.

My guess is either the battery or the CPU maybe even the internal memory.
Do you know the problem?

Hi Amschti Welcome to the forum.

Have you contacted support@fairphone . … . is the phone still under warranty ?

Normalerweise hast Du 2 Jahre Garantie.

I agree with chartm that this sounds like contact problems likely caused by oxidation. If the warranty is void for some reason or they can't do anything for you, I would advise you to dismantle the phone and clean all contacts with isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). Be patient and thorough (easier said than done, I know ;-)

If you spend a lot of time in damp conditions, to avoid or slow down this process in the future you might consider keeping the phone in a sealed plastic bag with a sachet of silica gel along with it, and / or regularly taking the cover off to allow dry air to circulate.

As you say, your previous phone was less prone to this problem. That’s probably because it was mostly glued together, which eliminates the need for internal contacts.
Contacts are the price we inevitably have to pay for a modular design. They undoubtledly bring their own problems!

I thank you!

It is almost absurd to hit with sustainability, but not to offer and protect this object in such a way that it is really permanent.
I hope that the part of “ecological manufacturing” is at least true. Otherwise, the price I paid was too high, for which I couldn’t work with certain apps, because the performance “was” very poor.
I accept your advice and take part in each other and try to cleanse the contacts that are “visible to me”. I don’t know “isopropyl alcohol”. But try it with WD-40;)

I thank you! If I get it to work I’ll definitely get back to you. Otherwise, I am selling my FP3 in individual parts and looking towards the FP4 …

I have not seen reports of success with WD-40.
You should be able to find isopropyl alcohol at your hardware store.
Good luck!

WD 40 is an oil based water dispersal agent and not really for electronics.

Isopropyl alcohol, as alcohol, will help dilute and remove water as the water becomes attached to the alcohol.
