DNS over TLS/IPv6 issues- Apps don't load data over Wifi

I found using Cloudflare vpn app seems to fix it permanetly while active.

I don’t seen to have these issues while the vpn is active. I need to use Cloudflare warp because my ISP routing is god awful.

As months have passed without any reasonable fix I have to chime in to eventually help with prioritising fixing this issue for good. The workarounds are not acceptable for everyone for several reasons, so it’s fair to express this. If not, this forum doesn’t have any reason to exist. I don’t want to disable v6, i don’t want to use any dns server except my own pihole for obvious reasons or any other third party app. I decided to move away from fairphone or android in general (again for obvious reasons) to jolla, as the experience only could get better in my opinion.

Sadly I’m really disappointed with my first fairphone experience because of this. Very sad to be honest.

Disabling access to a significant part of the internet to fix access to the internet on a single device isn’t a workaround.

For some it seems it is and I did not say anyone must use this. so just stop telling me that.

Thank you for sharing that my post caused you some level of discomfort. I will cease discussing this issue with you as I do not feel it of benefit to either of us.

My current workaround is using the app RethinkDNS. In its options, you have a toggle to turn off IPv6. It consumes a bit of battery but if you’re only using it in the light mode, meaning only to disable IPv6 and disable all the other fancy options, it’s fine.

However, you can’t use multiple VPNs at the same time and some apps that detect running in a VPN might not work. For me, sometimes using Chromecast is not reliable with YouTube or YT Music.

Every single suggestion contradicts my opinion. I don’t know what the point of the reply is. Happy for you that you found a workaround that works for you though.

Only workaround would be to disable ipv6 on phone wifi/connection settings, and thats not possible. So stop suggesting there would be one

Let me complete your sentence : for me!

As you can see I just reposted a suggestion others are using so I will suggest this when I want to and to come back to what I already said

So nothing works for you personally fine your view, your decision and not a general truth, I dont need to be informed about this.

Most online services are dual stack. Workarounds are not fixes and are not meant to be permanent. If someone can work fine without IPv6 for a few months, then that’s a valid workaround. I keep it enabled because for me it’s just 2 things that don’t work well.

It’s true that this issue is very inconvenient and I won’t sugarcoat it. But let’s not be too dramatic about it. I see some comments that are too much. Fairphone is working hard to fix this.

Oh really? Just got email from fairphone support that they have released update ( the previous one that did not fix anything ) and are closing ticket. This is not just inconvenient anymore, its been almost 3 months without any official communication how its proceeding, its close to unacceptable.

Really weird takes by the moderators…

“let’s not be too dramatic about it.”

I dont see any drama, just a lot of reasons why workarounds are not individually feasible. Yes, there’s more and more pressure on fairphone and frustration by users, but the simple reason is there’s no fix for months now. If I’d know one of my colleagues plays down a problem and tells a customer off like this, there would be a big problem.

I’m not a mod, so you’re directing your criticism to the wrong person.

You don’t? You made one of those over dramatic comments.

That’s quite a jab towards a large community that I know as a bunch of very friendly and helpful people, that spend their free time on this… Fairphone is working hard on a fix, the people on this forum are trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Use the workarounds, or don’t use them. These comments you write are not making a bad situation better.

Fair point, i misinterpreted the “fairphone angel” flair then. Nonetheless I guess it comes with some kind of experience. There are lots of tech savvy users that have high standards when it comes to usability and security and for whom workarounds of this thread are simply non negotiable. And I more and more feel like arguments brought up by these people are taken as “hysterical” or “exaggerating”. Let alone today my phone switched to mobile three times. Where can I get my data back that was consumed by this flaw?

Theres still no official recognition or statement besides this almost 400 post community forum thread that resulted in some cryptic issue tracker post. Without any research, is there any topic getting more traffic right now?

You know what would help, actual communication from fairphone.
The support does not even acknowledge the issue. Fairphone issue tracker still says “under investigation” and some comments about webview that has nothing to do with the issue, so they havent even bothered to update that. So its difficult for me to believe that they are working hard on a fix or even taking this issue seriously.
Im afraid another month goes, no fix, only some random “fairphone forum angel” post: trust me bro

There are many tech savvy users on this forum, including me. Of course we all expect Fairphone to release proper hard and software. But the fact is that FP is not on the same level of maturity as Google or Apple. That has to do with resources as well. Being over dramatic about issues won’t change that fact.

I agree on that. But I cannot make these announcements. I’m a beta tester and signed a non disclosure agreement. It’s up to Fairphone to provide details and do PR.

So annoying to get some kind of info by relentlessly making the point of correctly prioritising this fatal issue. Let alone acknowledging its impact on individuals. I must be too dramatic I guess.

Now its a beta test under NDA, got it.

That’s not what I wrote. Beta testers sign this agreement that any new features or other updates, that are not yet made public by Fairphone, remain non public.

I gave you a clear example, right? Saying a whole forum community should not exist just because you personally find a workaround not acceptable is pretty dramatic, yes.

Well, this isn’t exactly the way I thought comments on this would be taken so let’s hope the fix is incoming soon so we can all be friends again.
