Can I swap the SD card for a bigger one?

My wife uses the FP4, mostly for recording voice and reading email.

And for photos, of course.

When I had that phone, I put in a big ksic) sd ca, but in today’s world 128 GB seems to be very limited. So I want to upgrade it soon.

Can I take out the card, make copy on my computer, put the copy on the new card, put new card in the phone?

Or am I naive?

Android 6 introduced new options for using an SD card in your phone. Generally spoken - bigger sdcard, yes. I have a 1TB Sandisk installed working just fine.

Transferring your data has more than one way to do. If only 128GB you may transfer all personal data using a computer via usb cable transfer as backup storage. Then swap sdcards and get the new card properly installed/(formated) in your phone. Here it depends on installing it as external storage which is in a portable way. Means other storage readers, computers may read and handle the data on it too.

Using it as internal (extended) storage may encrypt the data on it and it will only work for this phone.

But have some more read about this option here. Several users (not only with Fairphone) in the past had massive trouble with their internal/extended sdcard use. The phone may lag depending on storage quality. But it also may get corrupt and hardly usable and backing up personal data may not be possible and external reading isn’t available as well due to encryption. Maybe it does work flawless though. If you don’t have specific needs to install it as internal storage extension use it as external/portable storage and all should work fine. I never had any trouble with my sdcard as external/portable storage.

You could also first test if atm. your computer can handle the data on it to have it backed up first.

Then get your new card installed in your phone and (if portable) afterwards connect it to your computer to restore all your personal data (folder DCIM → pictures etc.). Once you place it back in your phone and power it on, the new storage with your personal data should get available.
