Audio breaks down when using mobile signal

Hi,

When using the telephone on my Fairphone 5 I can normally hear well but my voice cuts out, become mechanical or is very faint for the person I am calling. This is a recent problems over the last month or so.

It happens whether I am using handsfree or not. However, it all works perfectly when using Whatsapp so I don’t think it is a mechanical issue.

Maybe an issue with noise cancilation? Any ideas anybody because it is getting very anoying now!

Welcome to the community forum :slightly_smiling_face:

Your problem seems similar to this:

except that yours persists when using the loudspeaker, if I understand rightly, but you don’t have the problem with WA calls.

I suggest

  1. Perform the hardware tests either using the service menu as described in the other topic and / or My Fairphone app > Support > Audio
  2. Could you indicate your current OS version. Go to Settings > About phone > Build number

Hi,

Thank you so much for your response. I performed the hardware tests and all was fine (and everything is fine when using WhatsApp calls).

The build number you asked for is FP5.VT2Q.C.092.20260330 and we are on Andriod version 15

I suggest you try starting the phone in Safe mode to test the Phone app. More info here.

If the problem disappears when using Safe mode you’ll know that it would likely be solved by performing a full reset, but that’s a pain and to be avoided if possible.

It might be worth deleting the cache of the Phone app. It’ll do no harm, anyway.

Have you tried a different app? For this sort of test, you could use an open source app such as Fossify Phone | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository
