Call microphone stopped working

Hi!

I have a FP5 and updated to FP5.VT2P.C.089.20260311 and since then when I call or get a call the person at the other end of the call can’t hear me. I hear them perfectly. If I switch to a speaker, everythin is ok and they hear me again.

This happens on the phone as well as with WhatsApp calls.

Also, recording on the voice recorder works.

Did the update break something or do I need to buy spare parts. It’s possible that it’s just a coincidence that the mic stopped working around the same time the update arrived.

Check the settings reg hearing aids, I think its under accesibility

Edit:Earspeaker not working (4 months now) - #2 by Nicolee

Hey!

I did. There were no reg hearing aids paired.

Its not about actual pairing or registeringof hearing aids, but the setting regarding compatibility, see the link in my previous answer. Is this setting disabled?

Oh, ok. Thanks, I checked. It is disabled.

I have the same problem. After Update to FP5.VT2P.C.089 the main microphone does not work anymore. I tested with calls and audio record tool. I did the *#*#2886#*#* selftest for audio and micdb. Result: main microphone records only strange noises while mic 2 and 3 work correct. This might explain why calls with speaker (hands free mode) might work. I created a support ticket today. Might be an software issue if that happend to you also. I decided to wait for the result of this ticket before i send in my device for repair.

Same here… and since several months having the problem (I have a FP 5 and all up to date, always).

I have to go with the speaker loud everywhere to be able to have calls because is the only way they can listen me (normal calls or whatsapp calls).

Really not happy with this, as should be the main thing that a phone is doing right?

Waiting the update to see if it can be recovered.

Tried everything. Also ##2886##

The question here is if there is an connection between update FP5.VT2P.C.089 which was released 2026/03/30 and the defective microphone. In my case i had the last successfull call at 2026/04/03. Unfortunately i cant exactly remember when i was notified about the update and on which day i installed it. The micropone was defenityly not working at my next call on 2026/04/11. Probably the first call after i did the update…. Could be an software issue related to the update, but there is still a chance the hardware got randomly defective for multible users in this time period.

Got no response for my support ticket within 2 weeks. The issue persists also after the following update and factory reset… Since only a few people were affected it is more likely a hardware issue. I now sent in the device for warranty repair.

Hi, I have the same problem , is it a known hardware or software issue?

My device was in France for repair. This was surprisingly easy and even faster than jet unanswered software support ticket  . According to the repair documentation I received, they changed the cable between top (pcba) and bottom (pcbb) module. And they did an software update. I am curious why since I installed the latest available update FP5.VT2Q.C.092 2026/04/20 before I did factory reset and sent in the device for repair. Probably they just reflashed the latest software with an professional jtag/flash adapter to get a clean factory reset state by default? The device is on the way back to me, so i’ll check mic1 and the software version first

From the tech report:

Failure Declared by the customer : MICROPHONE - FAULTY
I tried the service menu: audio and micdb tests failed. mic 1 is not working. Makes strange noises. Mic 2 and mic 3 appear to work.
FAILURE1: MICRO – HS
REPAIR : ELECTRO/MECHANICAL
PARTS CHANGE: FP5_PCBA_LINK_FPC_CABLE_V1 Grade E

FAILURE2: NO FAILURE
REPAIR: SOFTWARE UPDATE (preventive)

My personal opinion:
According to the https://www.fairphone.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Fairphone5_Information-on-how-to-repair-and-recycle-SCH-09-02-2024.pdf schematics mic1 is connected to the Qualcomm WCD9385 cpu directly over this cable. An connection issue at this cable at Pin 1,2 or 3 (at one of the connectors) leads to the mic not working.
If you have no warranty left or willing to try an self repair attempt (at your own risk) it might help to carefully check/clean cable contacts and reinstall this cable for better connection?
Remember: I am NOT an fairphone technician and this was a specific fault at my device, yours can have various other issues.

Update: Got my Phone back with FP5.VT2P.C.08920260311 and working mic 1 => Hardware Issue see last post
