APN settings on fairphone 6

,

In the UK, and trying to edit APN settings prior to visiting France and Italy. The settings

are greyed out, and can’t be edited. So how can I edit them? (My mnvo is Lebara)

At my Fairphone 5 I go to the app Settings
In the search field I type APN
Then I tap on the word Access point names
And in the next popup I tap on the + in the right-hand top of the screen.

Thanks for the tip. Because the APN settings were greyed out so I couldn’t edit them, I added a new APN. The settings I needed were at: https://www.apnsettings.org/britain/lebara-mobile-uk/, which might be useful for any other Brits wanting to travel in mainland Europe. [Big thank you to my wife for finding that link!] Not tested the new APN settings outside the UK yet mind, I’ll report back when I have.

While it’s a good idea to prepare and make sure you have the relevant info if needed, I would advise against making any changes until you really need to. If your network operator(s) (Lebara carried by Vodaphone) and their partners in Europe have done their work properly, I would have thought that you shouldn’t need to make any changes when you get there.

Please note that the settings page you yourself indicated is for use in the UK, not when you’re roaming, and it’s from a third-party site that may contain errors or be incorrectly updated.

However on this page, Lebara do indicate that you should check APN settings (just the username and password) but, again, I think it’s best to see how things work when you get there. This page also supplies information about calling and data costs.

Thanks for that advice - yes, I’m hoping the phone ‘will just work’ when we’re travelling. APN settings seems a murky business and Lebara don’t help by advising you to change settings that can’t be edited; whilst if you try to add another APN, they don’t provide enough settings!
I suspect the phone will work just fine, but will report back (and complain loudly to Lebara!) if it doesn’t.

i also think allowing “roaming” should be enough
(from France i already go to Belgium, Swiss, and Italy without issue using Orange carrier)

Right, we needn’t have worried, the phone worked perfectly when in France and Italy on the default APN settings. Thanks for the advice!

I’m trying to correct the APN settings on my Fairphone 6, Oister dk (can’t download pictures in MMS). I think I’ve found the correct settings

but I can’t figure out how to set the MCC (238) and the MNC (06) on Fairphone 6

Anyone know how? I’m not sure this is the only problem, so any advice more than welcome.

APN problems are increasingly rare, since most operators define them automatically. In that case it’s not possible to modify the APN, though it may be possible to add one.

The page you indicated is from a third party and not from your network operator. I would advise contacting your operator directly to be sure of using up to date information.

For MMS there may be a separate APN (type: mms) which will often just contain the URL for the MMSC (Multi Media Service Centre).

Don’t forget that MMS will not work without an active Internet connection, either through Wi-Fi or through your mobile data which would need to be enabled, or the option “MMS messages” (send and receive when mobile data is off) needs to be enabled. This last option just allows your phone to use mobile data for MMS even when mobile data is supposed to be turned off.
In all cases if neither Wi-Fi nor mobile data are available where you are then MMS cannot function.

Since A15 those 2 entries are no longer accesible

Yes. this looks like a problem introduced with Android 15.
As I understand it, the Country and Carrier identifications are now supposed to be provided by the SIM, but either some carriers haven’t followed up, or in some cases the SIM may be too old?

In any case, as I’ve already suggested, contact the carrier is the best option I think.
