Anyone any luck using wired earbuds with Fairphone 6?

I’ve tried several usbc-wired earbuds, they do work, but sounds cuts out, comes back, cuts out, comes back, cuts out, to eventually disappear altogether. Does anyone have earbuds that work? If so, I would like to know the brand and make.

Hello,

I use a 10 € chinese DAC adapter (but high quality CX31993 chip) and the sound is amazing on my Philips Fidelio L1. No problem at all (on eOS) and I simply rediscovered my music

PS: if you want to buy one prefer another CX31993 adapter with a more solid cable, this one seems very fragile…

Same here, we’re using a Soomfon adapter that allows charging at the same time. We use it with FP5 and FP6 in our household, no trouble with any of them.

You say you’re using an adapter, so no usbc- wired earbuds?

For those with 3.5 mm jack headphones, try a Bluetooth receiver like BAA 100 | Buxton . For me, the experience is awesome. I can still use my wired headphones while not having to have a wire hanging from the phone all the time. I usually toss the phone in the backpack and this receiver can then go anywhere, even in the smallest pocket… And it also serves as hands-free (not in the pocket, though)

USBC-jack adapter for jack headphones.

@peci1 : charging headphones + adapter and still having a wire :smiling_face_with_tear: (worst of both worlds)

Edit : charging adapter only, but still

Who says wired headphones have to be charged? Plus, the adapter, unlike wireless earbuds, can be charged while being used. And the phone too !

Having a wire is an actual plus for me. I listen to podcasts while riding on a scooter. Wireless earbuds are a no-go in this situation (I’d lose them after the first speed bump). As well as large overhead headphones, or even ANC ones (I need to hear traffic).

I’m sorry but that was not my question. I’ve bought several usbc-wired earbuds but can’t get them to work properly. I’m not looking for an adapter, unless you think there is a better chance of that working, i.e. buying earbuds with a Jack and use an adapter. But it seems a bit strange to do that.

And I don’t want to use Bluetooth when listening to a meditation before falling asleep. I just want those earbuds to work :sob:

The problem with USB-C ended headphones is that you have to make compromises. Either you don’t like the sound, or you don’t like to look, or the phone doesn’t like the USB-C (more specifically, the DAC in it). But it’s all connected together into one set and you can’t change individual parts to get the ideal combination.

Jack-ended headphones have one less dimension to this (just sound + look). Then you buy a separate USB-C - jack adapter which works. Or jack-bluetooth, in my case, but that’s about your preference.

FP4 has this awesome list of tested adapters: ✏ FP4 List of USB-C to 3.5 Audio jack adapter . FP6, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to have a similar one yet. But you can look around in this one and see if any would work for you.

I may have to try that then. And also buy new earbuds with jack bc my son ruined my old ones :grimacing:

I can confirm that wired earbuds are working fine, depending on the manufscturer of your choice.

I went for those and they work as they should with buttons seem to work as they designed for.

I also tried one of my old skullcandy buds with adapter which worked as well.

Thanks. Someone told me to change a setting in developer mode. Did that and trying it tonight. If that doesnt work I will eiter buy philips usbc or an adapter and buds with jack

Same problem with these Philips ones

I think it might be your usb port , or a battery optimisation error.

Some setting in android it self is letting the phone go to deep sleep killing all the apps in the background.

Have you noticed how long after connecting headphones and starting playing music this thing happens?

Also it might be that your phone is in the pocket and cable is getting bend resulting in loosing connection.

I usually keep my phone in back pocket when using it for listening to music where cable is not prone to moving a lot. Also when I first used headphones I had to exclude my music app from battery optimisation option so it can run in the background when screen is off

Please make sure if that option is checked in your music app settings.

Hope this solves it as I look like a mug recommending product that does not work for you

No, don’t feel bad. It worked for you so I tried it. We will use those earbuds anyway, my son is prone to wrecking them. It’s not the pocked thing either, the one is on my bedstand and I’m lying down, listening to a meditation. I know what you mean, but that’s nog it. The sound fades of its own accord. It’s almost immediate. And the silences usually get longer the longer I listen.

Hi, just a far fetched thought. Is it the same across the apps? Like listening to the radio, streaming music, watching movies, news, meditation apps? Perhaps there is some glitchy combination of settings…

Yes, it’s the meditation apps, downloaded spotify tracks, other downloades audio files on my phone…

Hi! You mentioned that the earbuds work - so may it be a bug in the music/sound-app? I use a complete cheap no-name-adapter and earbuds; so I guess that is no question of hardware but of settings.
