Ah, I didn’t see that! So basically, if I borrow a friend’s SIM card from a different operator, I should be able to bypass the delay. Very tempted to try that :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I also haven’t gotten the update. I suspect that they paused the roll-out once people started reporting wifi-problems.

hi, I’m still encountering issues with at least two bank apps in France. One of them investigated the problem and found that it was with Fairphone through this last Android update. The app is either very slow or kicks me out and asks me to login again. Any news on when this will be fixed?

Yes, if the update doesn’t get delayed by the other operator, too, and if the rollout wasn’t paused in general.
But keep in mind that sometimes network providers are delaying updates on their network for real compatibility reasons until this gets fixed.

This does only occur on wifi I guess? So on mobile data it works?

hi, it occurs either way, doesn’t matter if wifi or 4G

So did you report it to support?

Asked my provider, they can’t stop updates, so I guess that the rollout is spread over more than 5 weeks or Fairphone stopped rollout to fix problems..

They can, not approve and delay

An update, maybe useful to someone.
I solved the problem with eduroam network by switching from ā€œUse randomized MACā€ to ā€œUse device MACā€ in ā€œPrivacyā€ network setting for the eduroam network details. While I understand the reason for using true device MAC for such connection, I was not expecting my phone to freeze and reboot because of that. But all is good after this correction.

there is a software update for FP6 starting the rollout tonight

My only hope with this update was that it fixed my screen blinking on and off

I would prefer fewer emojis

Android 16 has no features I’m excited about or even enjoy or even noticed (I mean it’s literally the same isn’t it? Except the annoying giant emoji things?)

My screen has only frozen once since the update, when seems good

But:

Microsoft authenticator doesn’t work normally so I have to enter a code each time. If I had to access my email more than 6 separate times I won’t be able to access my work emails from home.

Anything that requires WiFi is slower than before, especially looking at my one note on my phone (I use it as a reference at work for some calculations), BBC iPlayer is basically unusable, apple music is slow . I have to restart my phone, it’s works for a while, then stops again. I’ve restarted my phone 5 times today.

Microsoft phone link (is that what it’s called?) totally broken -seems a problem with the Bluetooth

I’m fed up fairphone. Combine that with no live photos in the camera app and no burst shot (practically impossible to get a nice picture of the kids) I’m feeling like fp6 is a rough deal

Would love to hear what is happening to make this better

Thanks

Still waiting for Android 16 update and the next update is already there…

I’d like to share my experience with Android 16 as well.

As @Rose_1234 mentionned, when I’m connected to the wifi (which performances are VERY good at home), all connecting apps are very very slow to open. I have to close them, turn off the wifi, enable it again, try to open the app again. Really painful. No problem when I’m only connected to 4G.

Also, yesterday I received 2 notifications (Vinted and another app) while my phone was in plane mode (plane mode had got enabled around 20 min before the notifications came). And I checked: the wifi was not enabled. These notifications woke me up while I was falling asleep…

The update installed without any problems. Nice and timely.

Although as for alot of other users, when on WiFi, some apps won’t work and app installs hang until WiFi is switched off and on again, then everything works, for like 10 min and then it stops working correctly.

This is THE reason to just bail on Fairphone. There are alot of things I can cope with, and am willing to accept. But this bug is driving me nuts.

The Dutch DigiD application, quite important, just refuses to work.

If this gets fixed I’ll stay, otherwise, it’s back to Samsung. There are lots of shops who can repair them quite well too.

What Fairphone is trying to do, I wholly support it, I want this to be good. It was OK with Android 15, I would even accept a longer wait for Android 16 if that would mean not having this bug. My wife’s Samsung has gotten a Android 16 update, no problems at all, on the same WiFi network. So I will not accept this as something Google did.

At the end of my rant, please keep up the good work. I just did not realize this might be more a hobby then just a phone I can use.

I’m still waiting for Android 16. I’m still on 15 with February 5 security updates. My friend got the update instantly on release. I’m using Vimla (Telenor) in Sweden.

  • Is this normal or is something wrong?
  • How many are we that are still waiting?
