Somebody at Fairphone clearly thought the weeks ahead would otherwise be much too uneventful at Fairphone support and in the forum .
Android 13 should get security updates until early 2026, if Androidās current update cycle continues unchanged. I think theyāll remember you by then .
Hello, sorry if I misread your post.
Have you installed the update and tested all of that? What does it mean that NFC status is removed? Can I not add it there?
I think it gets removed after you swap your battery for the first time, I lost it some time ago. In my case , it was enough to open and take it out and put it back.
The update went smoothly and took about half an hour. Refresh rate seems to have been set back to 60 Hz by the update, so one might want to change it back to 90 Hz afterwards.
Iām quite disappointed by Fairphone apparently giving up on the AoD-battery-issue as I was looking forward to finally being able to use it more. Removing this feature altogether is an incredibly poor and patronizing āsolutionā - so, writing to the support team is the next thing on my to-do-list.
I was actually looking forward to the Android 14 update to be able to use the passkeys stored in my Proton Pass vault. But it seems like the āthird-party Passkey managerā-feature is not yet in this updateā¦
Or am I overlooking it? Iāve tried a few things already, like reinstalling Proton Passā¦
If you open Proton Pass and go to Profile and scroll down a bit it will tell you that this Device is not supported. Even if you enable Passkeys for third Party apps in Chrome, itās still not supported.
As far as I understand it, itās up to Fairphone to implement Passkeys into Android. Other Manufacturers like OnePlus or Oppo donāt have support either.
I am taking a wild guess here but I donāt think this Feature will be implemented in the next year because of the small Resources from FP.
On A13 I had two issues. First one was brightness: when I set brightness at the maximum and I would lock the phone, then when unlocking the phone the brightness was set at half of its maximum even though the slider was still showing it to be at max. So I had to drag the slider back a bit and then to max again to get proper brightness back. This seems to be fixed now.
Second issue was overly compressed sound in video or sound recordings. Have yet to check if this has improved.
Iām still waiting for a A14 on my FP5 but Iām interested in the apperance of the google-bar. Is there the āat a glanceā bar with A14 instead the simple google search bar?
So far after a day of Android 14 I noticed the following improvements:
Battery lasts a bit longer
Random Performance Drops were fixed. No more lagging, it feels way snappier now!
Battery Usage Menu got fixed for me
NFC Icon is finally gone
Again, I canāt press enough how much faster the phone is! Itās finally a joy to use with the 90hz!
What I still have on my wishlist:
Lowest Setting of Loudspeaker during Phonecall is still way too loud. The Diffefence between lowest and highest Setting is too small, increase it by letting us go lower, so I can have the speaker on without anyone hearing it in a 15m Radius.
Still no way to set different Volumes for Ringtone and Notification Tone. They are still together in one Setting.
Please do more with the Fairphone App. FP5 is soon turning one and when I go into Phone->Discover the Modules it still shows FP4 stuff! The Fairphone App feels like itās still in August 2023 before the FP5 launched. This feels like Fairphone already gave up on the FP5 because there are no new Stories, Tips and Tricks or even Basic Pages updated for the FP5.
Implement Passkey support for Third Party Apps like ProtonPass and Co.
Overall the Android 14 Update brought joy to me and I even smiled on how snappy everything feels now. It would be nice if my 4 points would get adressed in the next few months as well and not next summer.
Edit: I overlooked the Volume sliders, you can set different Volumes for Ringtone and Notification now!
