Whatsapp doesn't open links in Google apps on E/os

For two organisations I work for we use Google as a platform. Since having reset all apps to fix an issue with the app store (wouldn’t update my apps- resolved), WhatsApp opens all the Google related links in my browser instead of the respective app.

I’ve had this issue when I got the phone initially as well, and had managed to change the issue then, however I can’t recall how.

I have turned on the setting in WhatsApp to open links in the app, and Ive also double checked all of the apps of Google for this sake, none of this is working

Have you tried the following:

Long-tap on the app icon of the respective google app and tap the info button (“i” in a circle). Scroll down to “Open by default” and add the links to open in this app.

There is no long-tap functionality in the default lauchner on /e/OS
You can set the default apps in settings → apps → default apps.

Ooops - you’re right, I’m using Lawnchair on e/OS.
But seriously - are there really people, who are using Bliss?

Yes. If you do not have hundreds of apps installed, you can group your apps on 2-3 pages by purpose. For non 24x7 users it works great.

Thank you both for getting back to me

A quick check, but do you mean that per app that I want to open in the app instead of the browser, I change the settings, or specifically for WhatsApp?

I did try this, however all links still open in the browser instead.

Issue is resolved:

Adding links to the open by default didn’t initially adress the issue, nor did clearing the cache on its own, but combining both of these along with restarting the phone seems to have finally fixed it.

Documenting this, so that I have it as a reference for others and myself in the future as well.
