What is the plan for FP4 security updates?

On the support website it is stated that the FP4 will get Security Updates until 2026 - which may be extended to 2028.

As of now (March 2026) the latest security update I got is from November 2025 and there is no additional info whether the phone will be covered by future updates or when exactly the updates will end.

I don’t want to use an unsafe device - and I don’t know if the FP4 is safe atm.

An official statement would be nice. (If this is not the right place for my inquiry, please guide me)

Kind Regards

In which country do you live and who is your provider?

Hello and welcome to the community
you are right to point out that the official website mentions 2026 with the note that it might be extended to 2028.

However, with the Android 15 update, 2028 is to be expected, and that notion has been officially embraced at least in one place

According to the update provided by the Community Manager, there is a small group of users still on November security patch, so I am guessing you might be one of them?

The official release notes can be found here

I am still on A13 and also haven’t received a security update since November. I am with mobile vikings (Belgium, proximus network) but roaming on Teilia EE (Estonia).

I am currently in the dark weather i will receive the A15 update or not and how long my phone will be safe. I am considering changing my battery and phone case, but i don’t think it would make sense investing in a phone that might be deemed unsafe within a couple of months.

I follow muffinmaster1024 that an official statement about these things would be nice.

The official statement was already posted by @Meaghan.

I’m from Germany and the provider is Congstar (Telekom). Funnily my wife has the same phone and provider but is on the January Security Patch (as I checked after @Meaghan s post)

I don’t see this as an official confirmation. It says “We aim to provide…”

Edit: statement/confirmation

What’s not official about that? It’s a statement of the Fairphone Community Manager.

It’s on their website and “we aim” means ~we want to. I don’t think it can get any more official than that.

Make a backup.
Try to get the update manually.
Go to the app Settings
Go to System
Go to Systemupdates
And tap on Check for updates

This advice annoys me a little bit. I have been doing this every day since December, yet not a single new update has appeared.

To my understanding this was only for those who already have A15. Yet I am still on A13. As far as I understand it, the rollout of A15 has been paused for an undetermined time. It would be nice to have an update on that.

Hi,
you are right the official FP provided statement I linked was for Android 15 users.

From your posts I assume you are on Android 13 and currently roaming. It seems users on two SIMs might be in more precarious position as far as the updates are concerned.

@muffinmaster1024 are you on Android 13 or Android 15 then?

I edited post as I had asked about obvious:)

Yes, i came across this as well :slightly_smiling_face: , but so far I have seen no communications about something being done on this issue (I do trust that someone is working on this on the background). I contacted MobileVikings, but they told me that they do not block any updates…

Do you know of any work rounds? i think I have already tried to search for updates with my SIM removed and using a VPN. Could this have anything to do with the fact tat i have the A13 November security patch that was meant for orange users and prevents me from getting any other updates? If so what should I do?

I submitted an inquiry trough FP’s customer service a month ago, but I haven’t heard from them, so I hope to get the most out of it now i have someones attention :upside_down_face:

I’m also from Germany and have Congstar as a provider, and I do have the January ‘26 patch, so I don’t think that’s the issue.

You can use a SIM from another provider. Even if I dont expect issues, thats on your own risk…

I don’t see how “we aim” can be seen as a confirmation for future update support. They are aiming to but not confirming anything.

I’ve done this several times in the last few months without success. Thank you for the instructions anyways!
