Welcome! Introduce yourself here!

Since I was young, I’ve always wanted a cell phone that opposed planned obsolescence. In case no one did it, I would go after that prestige myself!

And now, after years, I discover that this relic exists! And currently, (unfortunately) it only sells in the European region and northern neighbors on the other side of the world, which makes me very sad…

Hello everyone my name is Toby from Rotherham in the UK.
I am into Criminology , am married with two grown up sons.

Hey there Toby,

Welcome to the Fairphone Community.

Reading your bio it seems you’re waiting for the Fairphone 6 to be released (me too!). Let’s hope this year’s end will bring good news. But what brings you to Fairphone or here to this community in particular? Anything specific you’re expecting from Fairphone and their products?

P.S.: Can you recommend a good crime series with focus on story (and not so much on murder details)?!

Hi and thanks. Crime story worth a watch is Unforgotten , whilst they look into cold case murders, the story line is not solely focused on the murder but other aspects too such as characters personal struggles.
The Bay similarly is good for a story line too , shinning a light in the politics inside the police station , such as having to do overtime but always being able to be paid for the overtime…then senior officers attitude towards his team can be “be grateful you have a job” , interesting point you make though regarding story line. TV crime shows seem to always be about investigating murder which of course in reality crime / policing is not just about murder. I have often thought there should be TV crime dramas on burglaries , retail thefts and the like. Hopefully there’s be news on the Fairphone 6 soon this year.

Hi, I’m Elizabeth in Grenoble, France, Right now I’m here to join our local group #LaGuilde.
I am going through a very painful “born again” eexperience ever since my iPhone broke down and my son convinced me to buy this fairphone.
I used to have a fantastic community of English teachers on the net - And we were early adopters of all the social potential (strictly excluing FB that is)
And now I’ve become a noob ( isn’t that a moldu these days :joy:)
I’ll just sit in a corner and look, listen and learn for the moment.
Cheers

Ah … a shame we can’t frame that and hang it up beside the entrance of the forum :framed_picture: :+1:.
But, by all means, as soon as you feel like it, don’t hesitate to be more involved.

Probably a banner for some time

I didn’t realise this thread was still active, damn.

I’m Jorge, from Spain. I’m a Mathematics undergraduate and, also, the Fairphone Angel in Madrid (with no work though, Fairphone still pretty unknown around here :sleepy:).

I also mostly sit in a corner and look but this is a place for everyone with doubts (and ideas too). So when I do have a take I think is interesting, I share.

Cheeers!

A post was split to a new topic: :es: Problemas can llamadas

:waving_hand: Hello, I’m Serge and I’m :switzerland:. I currently live between Switzerland and Italy (yes, it’s somewhat complicated…) and am a scientific and technical journalist working in academia.

I just joined the Fairphone family with a Murena Fairphone ((Gen. 6) and am very well impressed by the build quality of the FP6, as well as its design and colour choices (I went for the green one personally).

I’m still getting to know /e/OS: some things are very nice and others will take some getting used to, but the nicest aspect is to finally begin my journey to liberate myself digitally from some big tech. And doing so with a more durable and ethical smartphone is something I really like the idea of!

My only major gripe, apart from some very particular app incompatibilities (they where expected and I planned for a workaround or alternatives - banks, I’m looking at you!) is that on the Murena the “Moments” function is absent: the switch just, ahem, switches off camera and microphone. I really regret this, since I loved the idea of “Moments”, but it’s not enough of a sore point to go back to stock Android for me. Hopefully one (not too distant) day this will come to the Murena FP6 as well… One can hope!

Nice to meet you! :slightly_smiling_face:

I seem to vaguely remember that Murena’s Manoj (Murena forum moderator) hinted something on the development of the FP6 Switch in /e/OS … which I struggle to find right now. @AnotherElk weren’t you involved in asking him?

Hey everyone!

I’m Tom from The Netherlands :netherlands:.
I’m a back-end developer for a e-commerce platform who just recently started his Fairphone journey with the Fairphone 6!

I’m loving the phone so far, even tried out /e/OS for a bit. Currently just waiting for more news concerning the bootloader bricking issue before I move back to the stock Android OS.

Beyond that, I’m really enjoying the phone itself and the warm fuzzy feeling of sustainability. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Looking forward to lurking around here and possibly even contribute to topics! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Yes, I also saw an allusion to that somewhere, but did not find a direct source for this information. Let’s hope, that would be wonderful!

There was this message on the /e/OS forum, referring to Fairphone’s FAQ:
“We are working with the team at Murena to see if we can expand the options assigned to the switch as you see on your The Fairphone (Gen. 6) running Android.”

Hello everyone!

I’m Mike from beautiful Franconia where a lot of tasty :beer_mug: has it’s origin.

After 15 years with different Android devices (Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy S3; Sony Z1Compact, Z3Compact; HMD Nokia 8; Asus Zenfone 8) I finally ended up buying a FP6 on release day because my current phone needs to be replaced within the next months due to hardware and software issues.

I’ve registered to this forum in order to get and give information, especially on rooting the device. For me personally, a phone without root is a no-go.

So I’m looking forward until the situation about bootloader, unlocking, rooting is clearified. So I can setup and use my new device finally.

I would say the community is already quite well informed about those topics, with root you cant look the bootloader thus you dont need to worry about that piece and for rooting read and ask questions if needed here

Else welcome to the forum

@yvmuell
Thank you for the hint! But I’m already aware of the issues as I’m reading all the topics from beginning, even before setting up my account here. That’s why I’m still not using the FP6.
I don’t really care about an unlocked bootloader an my private phone, no requirement for me to re-lock it, especially with the hustle and bricks that happened the last days. Never done this on any of my rooted phone the past years. What I really care about is getting a firewall and advertising/tracking blocker installed.
