Volume key stuck

Down Volume Key is sticking everytime I use it. I’m waiting for my screwdriver kit from Fixit to arrive. I’ll open it up and give it a clean but if this doesn’t solve the issue… am I stuck with sending it to fairphone? Or buying a part?

It is in warranty. Fairphone 6 bought last summer.

The idea of repair is fantastic but the postal charges for parts to Ireland are  I’m quite shocked at how much they are.

Welcome to the Community Forum.

I guess this concerns a Fairphone :six:, but either way the volume button has never been available separately for users for any Fairphone model. Only Fairphone’s repair contractor in France can repair or replace it. This would need to go through a support ticket at support.fairphone.com (the quickest way to get a human to reply is usually the working days CHAT 10-12 am Amsterdam time).

Thank you! I did find it a nightmare to get responses previously when returning a phone so good to know there are some hours real people might be available! Appreciate the info! Let’s hope a clean solves it when the tools arrive .

You can also try the Repair Portal: Here’s how you can repair your Fairphone device yourself. (“Diagnose issue”)

I think it’s the fastest way to do a warranty claim, since you don’t have to talk to anyone as far as I know.

Likely the button is broken. I’ve had same issue, also bought it in summer and it basically ended my interest in Fairphone as a company.

If you’re lucky, you will get it with service, maybe in 3-4 weeks.

If you’re like my case, they will void your warranty and demand almost 400€ for screen, motherboard and frame replacement because that button also breaks the seal when it gets stuck and they get to claim corrosion damage from any tiny droplet that could’ve got around that key and beyond now breached seal.

Oh wow…. but this is an error in how it is made so how can it be me that has voided the warranty? I ordered the 00 screwdriver as that’s what I had seen was the one to use and now finding out it is torx so it is taking a long time to even just get the phone open! I have to wait again and it will be another big amount on shipping to ireland

I haven’t used the repair portal yet (an hopefully never will!) so I can’t say it with 100% certainty, but I believe you can start a warranty claim there. You’d get a free shipping label to their repair center and if they agree that it’s covered under warranty, you won’t have to pay for the repair (and shipping).

However, someone who has used the portal would have to confirm that it is indeed the case.

Yep. I had to contact Fairphone cause my FP6 has switched off and no way to switch it on again.

I used the repair portal and finally explained what happened. A ticket has been created (info received by mail).

Next day at 10:00 I sent a message on chat on their site. A guy answered me and he gave me more informations on how to send back the phone in warranty (bought in jully 2025 and 5 years of warranty).

I have followed the procedure to package it and send it via a UPS relay.

Now I’m waiting…

Until now, free of charge.

Trouble : the phone was connected on my computer and tethering mobile connection. My computer warned me that there was no more internet. Phone was totally off. I tried to switch on, no way. To charge it, no way. I have removed the battery, put it back, no way to switch on the phone.

you just dont know what the outcome might be, please dont assume your case is the same as the one from the other customer.
you should be able to just buy a Torx driver in a shop from Ireland, thats not a rare one, maybe just go to a repari shop and ask them to open it up with you to check. Just know, should anything break when you open it, it could void warranty.

When you open it, do be careful and also make sure to take pictures before you touch the button.

And yes as other people said you can use repair portal though unless they added new options in last couple of months, you migth have to open a generic support request, it wasn’t an option for me. It just didn’t assume buttons can break.

If you need it, I have the print files for button replacement, fixed the stucking for me. Attaching a pic of how the buttons look inside

Yes please! That would be fantastic. I’d love to repair it myself once I have the right screwdriver and be able to sort any little issues like this myself. Nice to see someone else had the same issue and fixed it so thank you for replying

Since this seems to be an issue I should be prepared to encounter with my FP6 at some point, I’m very curious to see whether it works — please keep us updated.

I really admire your courage. Personally, I’d contact customer support for a repair first before risking the warranty.
