USB C Port poor connection

I have had the FP5 for 412 days. The USB port has been having issues for the last few week. It seems very loose and any slight movement means the cable falls out. This happens for both the Fairphone charging cable and other USB C cables. I have tried to clean it with a wooden cocktail stick and no change in perfomrance. Is it a case of wear and tear?

hello
have you tried opening the phone and reassembling the port?

Yes that sounds like wear and tear, when cleaning didnt help and the lint can be quite compressed and firm in the port. Sometimes a new cable can help for some time, however I personally would check for a new port.

I think that pretty much depends on the use of the port so far. There is some wear of course and if it had many connection/disconnection cycles in that time, connectors might hang loose - especially since you write that this is the case for basically all cables that you’ve tried.
Since holding the cable is all about the retaining mechanism, have a look at this short thread:

I didn’t check myself if anything related can be recognized in the actual port, but it may be worth a try. Otherwise: New port - luckily it can be replaced relatively easily.

I know on my 3+ I had to replace a bottom module because of that problem. Both the original and the replacement lasted longer than that though!
