I have been a happy US Fairphone 5 user since October 2024. The phone works very well on the T-Mobile network.
However, at this point, the battery life is starting to degrade and I have not found anywhere that will ship a standalone genuine FP5 battery into the USA. Clove does NOT ship despite what their website previously stated.
Does anyone know how I could get this battery? Or perhaps someone would be willing to ship me one for payment in advance?
The shipping really is the complicated part in this, as shipping of standalone lithium-ion batteries is very heavily restricted because of the fire hazard.
Alternatively to your own topic here, you might perhaps ask other US users whether they can help you out in our Market category, or in this topic here … 🇺🇸 Fairphone owners in the USA
Else, Fairphone are active in the US now, even if only with the FP6+ and Fairbuds as well as accompanying accessories and spare parts so far. But you could ask them whether they can help you or plan to add accessories and spare parts for other Fairphones to their US shop soon-ish … https://us.fairphone.com/
Furthermore, Murena are active in the US as a Fairphone reseller. They list a range of Fairphone parts in their US shop, but not the Fairphone 5 battery currently, it seems. Can’t hurt to ask them whether there’s a way they could get you one … https://murena.com/america/
Yes, this is what every company I have asked has told me. However, “heavily restricted” is not the same as “completely prohibited”. Surely, with enough money thrown at the problem and enough forms filled out, anything can be done in this modern world
However, it does not even need to be that complicated. TSA states that “Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, including power banks and cell phone battery charging cases, must be carried in carry-on baggage only.” So there is no reason why someone returning from Europe couldn’t purchase 2 batteries for me and bring them and arrange to meet locally in the Seattle area where I live. Of course, as I mentioned, I would compensate them for it in advance. That’s what I was getting at with my statement above. No laws or regulations would be broken.
I will reach out to Murena but every company has basically told me the same thing: “there are shipping restrictions”. I reached out to Fairphone directly but they have not been helpful at all, only saying that FP5 is not supported in the US and that they do not sell the battery but to try Clove who also does not ship it to the US.
