Unlock bootloader pages are gone

Hi,

I have a crisis situation. My Fairphone 3 just died suddenly, misteriously and misserably, will create another post about it but this is another topic.

I already had a Fairphone 4 ready to replace mine and a backup of my things, the problem is.

I’m following guides to unlock the bootloader and all of them point to pages that are gone (404).

I have updated to the latest firmware available through the phone (FP4.TP31.C.0143.20250917), and still when I tap on OEM unlocking to enable it, I get a prompt for my PIN, put it in, and then I get a prompt that says: “Input verify code:” “Warning: Device protection features will not work on this device while this setting is turned on”.

please help me unlock the bootloader, from here I’d like to send a message to the EU ministers and to all their mothers, there is NO WAY I am going to use a smartphone I don’t control the software of.

nevermind, after restoring to factory defaults I just realized there’s another update that I can download and install: QREL.15.17.2 (May 2026) and one of the “improvements” is “Simplified the bootloader unlock proccess”.

Unlocking codes are no longer required for the Fairphones :three:, :four: , :five: and :six: . The necessity was removed in recent updates for all these devices.

If you do this update first, you should not need the unlock code anymore :slight_smile:

Very likely it was a matter of applying all the updates, I really got the impression before that I was on the latest (sept 25), but there’s this one (May 26) that I still could apply.

Although, I didn’t do it, used @wallacewells link and that worked well, no idea how I couldn’t find it anywhere by myself, looks like they have moved the code generator tool there definitelly.
