Unable to log in to Proton app on FP6+ Murena

Proton Mail app shows “Login credentials are incorrect” on Fairphone 6+ Murena, while the same login works perfectly on Fairphone 6 Murena and iPad.

Environment

- **Device**: Fairphone 6+ (Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, 12 GB RAM)

- **ROM**: Murena /e/OS

- **Application**: Proton Mail v7.11.5 (August 27, 2026)

- **DNS**: Quad9 (also works on FP6 with Quad9)

Problem Details

- Error message: “The login credentials are not correct. We invite you to try again.”

- Same account/password works flawlessly on:

  • Fairphone 6 (Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, 8 GB RAM) with Murena

  • iPad (iOS)

Troubleshooting Steps Attempted (All Failed)

- ✓ App updated to latest version

- ✓ Cleared cache and app data

- ✓ Complete uninstall/reinstall

- ✓ Changed DNS (Quad9 → Cloudflare)

- ✓ Enabled microG “Google device registration”

- ✓ Verified system date/time accuracy

- ✓ Granted all app permissions

- ✓ Battery optimization set to “Unrestricted”

Hypothesis

Bug specific to the cryptographic module of Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 under /e/OS, or microG incompatibility with this hardware architecture.

Request

- Investigation into compatibility with Fairphone 6+ /e/OS

- Workaround solution if available

- Notification when a fix is deployed

how would we FP user address this request? Here is the FP user forum, no contact to FP support, also your issue needs to be addressed rather in the e/OS forum as, Murena develops the system not FP.

I think it would have been nice to include the link to the topic on the /e/ forum you already created so that we don’t need to ask/suggest the same things twice.

And I saw you posted an additional bug report at Unable to log in to Proton Mail app on FP6+ Murena - User Queries - /e/OS community
As far as I know real bug reports to the /e/ support need to go through Work items · e / Backlog · GitLab

Just a wild guess: could it be that the proton services are kind of blocked by the default settings of /e/OS and you explicitly allowed them on the FP6 in the past but not yet on the FP6+? I mean, to my knowledge, the /e/OS image is the same for FP6 and FP6+ as is the app version (the versions are identical between the two Fairphones, right?). To me that sounds a bit like differences in settings. But as I said, just a wild guess.

Bug specific to the cryptographic module of Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 under /e/OS, or microG incompatibility with this hardware architecture.

That of course would also be an explanation. If that’s the root cause, I fear we users here won’t be able to assist.
I guess the best the people here in the Fairphone forum can do is to respond if Proton works with their FP6+ on stock ROM or if the same problem is present there, too.
Until then, I hope someone on /e/ side can help you. Or as suggested over there the Proton support.

possibly unrelated since I am on stock Android and on FP5, but I have the same version of the ProtonMail as a beta tester. Are you by any chance a beta tester for Proton as well?

FWIW - try logging in with the normal/administrative proton login, not the VPN login. Works for me since a long time, well before I got a FF6+/eos.

Proton apps work smoothly on the Fairphone 6 Murena
