When I first got my FP5 running Fairphone OS, the ultra-low brightness feature was quite effective – it really did reduce the brightness in a dark room. However, since an update, it hardly reduces the brightness at all, even though I’ve set it to the minimum level. Unfortunately, I can’t remember whether this happened following an update before I switched to /e/OS or whether it came later with the 4.0 update. It was really handy as it was more effective than any app you could install for that purpose.
I posted on their French-language forum (in July) but didn’t get any replies. I’ve posted here because I’m no longer sure whether this feature has become less reliable following a Fairphone update or after I switched to /e/os. I was planning to post my message on their English-language forum, though.
As an alternative, I use Twilight from Google Play. If you turn down the light of your FP5 to minimum, this can take it so low that in a normal light setting it looks almost black, but in a dark room you can barely see. It is primarily a red filter, although these settings are independent from each other. I have used it since my first smartphone which was 3 or phones ago now.
However. I highly recommend doing a bit of research yourself, just to verify that I don’t feed you false information. Link is provided, bu you can also search for Twilight and see a red circle with a white halfcircle in the upper part of the red circle. Like a twilight sun hanging on the horizon.
