Triodos bank app on e/os

Hi there,

I want to get a Fairphone 6 with e/os. I have seen that on the list of banking apps that work on e/os someone has put about the Triodos Bank UK app “Cannot set up app as once you get to needing to record your face it gives you a message saying you need to install Google Play Services”. Am I right in saying that I can use the Google Play Store on e/os if I want to and if I did this to install the Triodos app this should overcome this problem? I am guess installing via the Aurora store would not work. I have checked previous posts on this but they are all quite old.

Thanks!

No, you can’t use the Play Store or Google Play Services directly in /e/OS.
/e/OS’s own App Lounge as well as Aurora Store can act as alternative clients to the Play Store to install Apps from the Play Store.

And no, how ever you install the App, this will not solve such an error message in /e/OS.
The point of /e/OS is to not have the genuine Google Apps and background services on the phone. Instead /e/OS uses an Open Source replacement named microG mimicking the genuine Google services to get many Google-dependent Apps to work nonetheless, but incompatibilities can show up at any point in time and cause such an error message.
Banking Apps are among the trickiest to get to work consistently in /e/OS.

If you need any banking App to really work 100% of the time for you, /e/OS is the wrong choice of OS.
If a banking App is just nice to have and you could live without it for any given amount of time (until incompatibilities which have shown up get successfully worked around), /e/OS is fine.
