Heyhey, welcome!
Can you link the manual or quote what it says?
If you mainly want to transfer files, you can connect both phones to each other via USB and enable file transfer via the notification that pop us.
Alternatively PlainApp provides an easy way to access files from one phone on the other wirelessly.
Thx Switch.
One source of this information is Tin, the chatbot
. Ask it this question:
Can i transfer during start up from old Android phone to new /e/OS Fairphone?
This is the answer:
<
To transfer data from your old Android to your new /e/OS Fairphone during startup:
Charge both devices and connect to Wi-Fi.
On your new Fairphone, tap Start and follow the setup prompts.
Choose to copy apps & data, then use a cable or select wireless transfer.
Follow on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Let me know if I can help you further!
But the steps for this transfer (step 4 in the manual) does not show.
I’m trying to find back the documentation that says this is possible, but I can’t find it anymore.
Anyway it doesn’t work and that is a pitty!
Hmmm, it seems like it is referring to FairphoneOS (please anyone correct me if I am wrong), because I don’t think I ever saw this option on /e/OS.
Here is information provided by e.
It’s not surprising that moving to a system devoid of Google is not as simple as just jumping from one “G-phone” to another, when the Google account is key.
The methods recommended by e rely on the fundamental user databases of Android without using standard Google account-based methods.
I neither think that this works with e/OS. Overall for such e/OS related question its best to check with e/OS and not Fairphone. Yes they sell it with e/OS installed but I dont think they provide system support.
How to restore photos on my Fairphone /e/OS/ from my Google backup?
I installed and accessed Google Photos app with my Goggle account on the Fairphone. I see the photos in the backup. I see no function to restore the photos to my Fairphone. How can I restore them?
/e/OS is a degoogled OS, so it would make sense if googles features do not work. Maybe you can access these files via browser and simply download them. Or with the Google Drive app. I don’t use google so I don’t know for sure.
Thank you for your response, Switch. I agree with you that it does make sense, but various documentations tell me that /e/OS does give the opportunity to download photos from Google. As it tells me that it offers steps during start up to copy stuff from your old Android phone. But it doesn’t.
I was a Google user and I’m trying to degoogle now and search for ways to copy my things to other platforms. Troublesome process…
Did you check the e/OS forum as this is rather not a FP issue but a system issue?
Yeah, I figured, I have to go there for this issue.
I guess this topic might advantageously be merged with
It might be useful if you could you please cite them, as they may need to be reviewed ![]()
I agree, this inevitably involves some work to shake free from a company whose success depends on acquiring and then hanging on to users and their data.
