TomTom Go working on E/OS?

Can anyone tell me if TomTom Go works on a FairPhone 5 E/OS? Has any of you installed this and got it working?

I am on iodeOS 6 (Android 15), I can launch the app, no problems but can’t test more without registering. So I would asume it works. Whats your concern? Why should it not work.

Thanks for your reply. I currently have a 5.5 year old FP3 and am about to purchase an FP5 and would really like to be de-googled with E/OS. E/OS is new to me and before I make the jump I want to estimate what I will run into or what I can no longer use: banking apps? TomTom Go? OsmAnd? DigID? Spotify?
I can’t find much about that. Maybe because there are no problems :-).
(Looking ahead prevents disappointment)

You might find more info in the e/OS forum

At least for OsmAnd I know it works.

See this list here

Unfortunately it is listed in the second listing ‘Not Working with microG’.
But not all entries are up-to-date.
So better make a posting in the eOS forum and ask around for recent experiences.

On the e/OS forum I only find a few old (2022) topics. In the meantime, the OS and software will have been developed further, making these topics no longer representative.

I hope for a response from a user who currently uses TomTom Go on E/OS.

I installed E/OS on my FairPhone 3. TomTom GO worked, but it did not read my subscription details in the Play Store. I fiddled with the offered Play Store in E/OS including my Google Play Store credentials and with microG, but I did not get it to work.

This is a show stopper for me. So for now unfortunately it will not be an FP5 E/OS, despite the strong urge to become de-google-ed.

I contacted TomTom support and they indicated:

  • TomTom GO app is only available via the Play Store for Android devices
  • As for your Play Store-free device, it is unfortunately not compatible with the app. This problem occurs because the app requires specific software and hardware capabilities that are only available on devices that support the Play Store. Devices without access to the Play Store may not meet these technical requirements, which means the app will not install or function properly.

I asked if there was any development on support for Google-free devices, but I haven’t gotten an answer yet.

If anyone knows or has suggestions on how to get TomTom Go working with my subscription, please let me know!

Did you check microG-Settings? There are options to enable this, check the Playstore-Services-menu-entry.

In the past I used a modded Playstore-app that helped me with that. E.g. MicroG Revived offer a solution.

In general I recommend you to not make yourself dependent on Google if you plan to degoogle your phone. Like purchasing stuff from the playstore. Some devs offer ways to purchase their apps/services without google involved, it is better to stick to those.

If you are open for other navigation-app-alternatives, I can recommend Organic Maps it’s free, open-source and works very well.

Thanks for keeping us posted.

Meanwhile another response from TomTom (5th feb):

We appreciate your idea for our feature improvement. TomTom carefully considers customer feedback when developing or updating new features.

I will document the details in my notes and the concerned team will thoroughly review the request. The implementation will be done based on their analysis and requirements.

I think everyone should ask a question to TomTom support, so that the statistics for E/OS will shoot up and TomTom will make an effort to support it.

I hereby invite everyone to drop experiences with TomTom in combination with E/OS here.
