Suggestion for a new way of modularity

FP3 has 1 year of life and we got the 3+ camera module this summer. So FP3 has another 4 year before reaching the EoL (end of life). Would be great if Fairphone will build the new CORE module, giving us the possibility to upgrade CPU, RAM. I know that could be some comunication issue with other modules since CPU is different and the fact that enviromental pollution releated to the production of the core is 70% of the entire phone, but they could use the same case… or they could just modularize the existing FP3 core in view of the future and selling it as a new module.

That may not be attractive or possible, as unlike a computer of old the CPU is not a separate entity.

As the name suggests, an SoC is a complete processing system contained in a single package. It isn’t a single processor chip package, which you might be familiar with if you’ve ever built a PC. Instead, an SoC contains multiple processing parts, memory, modems, and other essential bits and pieces manufactured together in a single chip that’s soldered onto the circuit board.

You mean keeping all the modules and “only” changing the motherboard/CPU.
Not impossible…but hard
