Software update: FP5.VT28.C.042 (Android 15)

I know that, that doesn’t have to be underscored. But these features are not hardware based, except for the auto brightness perhaps. Although that was working at the end of Android 13, then regressed with Android 14 again to the bad state it was initially with Android 13. So, it may be fixable with the same set of patches.

So how long do I have to persevere ??

My old FP2 running /e/ is just fine :smiling_face_with_tear:

And still the forum rules apply… keep the topics clean and on topic, thats all I ask for. A mention doesnt harm however a side discussion would need cleaning, so I ask @all to just keep the FP6 discussion out of the FP5 topic.

I found this on an Honor FAQ site:

If PrivateSpace can’t be found, perform the following:

  • Go to Settings > Users & accounts to check whether your phone/tablet is in Sub-user or Guest mode. If so, switch to Owner mode for PrivateSpace to be displayed.
  • If Digital balance in Child mode has been enabled on your phone/tablet, disable this feature for PrivateSpace to be displayed.
  • Disable Hide PrivateSpace by doing the following:
Go to Settings > Security & privacy or Security, and then go to More settings > Show all settings.

Unfortunately, nothing applies to me.

Got the update this morning and everything went smoothly. But I’m not been able to remove the search bar(Google) from my homescreen,
Did anyone remove it with success?

Yes; Go to
Settings > Display > Search bar

Thank you, removed it successfully .
Kind of wired, not to put it in the homescreen sittings. But happy it’s an option now

Any solution for “SIM 1 is HD capable” which is in the status bar now? I can swipe it away but it’ll reappear after a reboot.
Apart from that I got rid of the network name in the status bar by enabling and then disabling it again, the rest is smooth so far. Oh, and finally the search bar can be removed without hacks, nice!

Hello, i’ve got an issue trying to install the update.

I saw today that the update to android 15 was released so i went in my phones settings > updates and then i downloaded the update. After that it asked me to reboot the phone, what i did. It turned off correctly but never turned on.

Now the phone doesnt turn on at all. No fastboot mode, nothing. I tried to plug it and see but still nothing. I dont think the phone is physically broken since i havent really used it yet. It still on my desktop i was setting everything up before using it so there is no physical damage at all.
I think the software update messed up and blocked my phone. The bootloader doesnt even starts.

It seems that the phone is not materially broken. When i plug it to my computer, i can see the device so its likely in EDL (Emergency Download Mode). But i cannot try to flash the boodloader by myself since it has to be signed so the Qualcomm SoC allows it.

i updated from FP5.UT2Q.B.125 to FP5.VT28.C.042
bootloader was locked on it.
No files were on it.
Phone was not root.
Debugging USB was disabled in developper settings (i think so)

Basically the phone was factory stock. Looks like the OTA update corrupted the bootloader or another partition.

I sent a message to the support and waiting for their answer. But has anyone faced that kind of issue? If so what could i do?

Thanks

Hello and thank you very much for the update! The most awaited feature for me is an ability to disable the search bar. Many thanks for it!

Update went well. Phone was a bit slow the first minutes (maybe doing something in background) but everything is back to normal.
Also, screen went to 60Hz for some reason, I had to put the settings back on 90Hz.

I don’t own a FP5 (but FP4 with eOS) but I’m interested in such featurs: can someone explain or give a link for this? In te eOS forum I’ve opened a thred for this:

The upgrade became available on the FP5 here today, too, and it installed without any major issue (so far).

The new (2025 fairphone redesign) splash screen including the lime-colour “Switch” bar briefly made me think this was the FP6.

My experience with removing the Search bar was mildly stuttering for a short time. After setting to not show the search bar (and the obligatory reboot), a rump search bar (keeping to try to actually load the search engine) was still showing. I suspect that the fact that my search bar was set to DuckDuckGo has to do with this. Eventually the search bar would only disappear after I had deinstalled the DuckDuckGo app (with Search bar still activated in settings! Day and date are shown now where the search bar was – this disappears after deactivating the Search bar in settings).

While I’m at it: Where can I set a search engine (in case I want the search bar back)?

You can manually put a search bar widget on your home screen to get it back.

This is the one feature I’ve been waiting for for 14 versions.

Came for a quick word of appreciation. Thanks for the update, the removable search bar in the default launcher and the quick release for my provider are nice, good job.
