Looks like we are getting Android 15 for the FP5

Changes:

The Fairphone 5 is getting an upgrade to Android 15! This update brings enhanced security and privacy features to protect you and your device, along with some other improvements.

  • :locked: Private Space
    Create a separate private space with an additional layer of authentication to keep sensitive apps, like social, dating or banking apps, away from prying eyes.
  • :key: Passkeys integration
    Passkeys was first introduced by Google in Android 14 and is now available on Fairphone, including the recent updates as part of Android 15 which supports one-tap sign in.
  • :ninja: Theft Protection
    Theft Protection is a hub for proactive security features and tips that help keep your devices and data more secure by deterring theft and providing quick recovery in the event of a stolen device.
  • :sparkles: Small Quality of Life Improvements:
    • New 4x5 grid option for home screen
    • Option to increase contrast
    • Disable sending device name wifi
    • Partial Screen Recording
    • Interactive control center Bluetooth panel
    • App Archiving
    • Set your default wallet app
    • You can now remove the search bar from your homescreen to get additional space to place icons

coming from june 2025 level to FP5 A15 level same june 2025, the download being offered inside the updater is at 673 MB update size.

immediately after boot into A15, there is a small google play services update 6.1MB available and another reboot due.

how about new annoyance: long and scrolling mobile service providers name at top left edge of the screen when unlocked. too many icons clock and stuff filling up the space but mobile providers network name or what thats called is always being shown in a scroller. can I turn off this annoyance? thanks.

Mine isn’t scrolling. But it has “VoLTE” on the side, so:
Provider, clock, VoLTE.

And then on the right side I got a a phone symbol with 4G and a LTE symbol. There’s a bit of redundancy.

The changelog: (please add to first post)

Has quite a few new little tweaks I did not expect:

  • Finally being able to remove the search bar
  • interactive Bluetooth control center (I think that is the Bluetooth control in the quick settings/ top drawer)

I hope it will arrive to my phone soon as well, I don’t see it to download yet. Looking forward!

Did anyone get private space to work?

There is a toggle to turn that off. But I’m noticing some inconsistent behavior. When I got an SMS, the provider name appeared. But when I pulled down the notification shade, then pushed it back up, the provider name was gone.

Edit: might not even have to do anything with SMS. Just generally any notification you interact with, turns on the provider name. Definetly a bug.

I got the update with an annotation that is distributed in pre-release groups, what could that mean?

I am on holidays, will not be installing it ATM

Yeah that caught my eye too. But I just shrugged it off. Hopefully it’s a case of unchanged text, not an accidental release of a not quite fully cooked update.

Which in my eyes suggests it is not accidentally released.

How did you enable or activate it?

Settings → Security and privacy → Private space.
And you’re guided through the setup process

I am missing this menu entry on two different FP5 with FPOS A15.

Is it by any chance have an account that is managaed by your workplace?

No, these are both complete private devices, never ever a work or enterprise profile was activatet.

I tried to set the system language to english, reboot, menu entry is missing also. Back to german and nothing changes.

I have created some additional user accounts under

System → Nutzer

maybe this is the root of the problem? I cant delete these additional users yet…

I have the searched option, too. To another point in the Thread: I had the same behavior with the provider name but for me i think i fixed it with disable and enable the option in the settings since then it’s gone. I’m at the Deutsche Telekom network i installed the update with a O2 sim no problems occured since then.

Do you have configured user under System → Nutzer ?

I need this for an WhatsApp installation with an empty contact list…
