Software Update: FP5.UT2M.B.113.20250319

Well that could mean others would have to wait worldwide…

Agree and as long as this doesnt happen

When you ask for help/answers.

Add that to the list of stuff they could do a better job communicating about.

No :stuck_out_tongue: That’s why I mention the next part, that FP provides a list of providers that are delayed. Then we know it’s not just another test pipeline that’s stuck. It’s nice to be informed about these things.

You want everyone here complain about their provider? We need a structural solution for this structural problem. It’s like this every month.

Thats not the point or what I said and I dont want anything from anyone, I just added my opinion how to get (if at all) an answer faster as long as proactive information (aka list of delayed provider) is missing.

Saying “I’m missing the update” will just create questions first. Saying “I’m missing the update and my provider is xyz in Country xyz” can lead to a direct answer instead of requests first.

I get what you’re saying, it’s a vague complaint. But that’s besides the point, this is a structural issue. Every month people are having this issue. Life is too short to spend time on this. This problem shouldn’t be handled as a monthly ritual. We’ve played that game long enough. If their tests fail on the release date, they should post that. They have this information, but they probably think it’s better for the PR to pretend this issue does not exist. Being transparent about inconsistent update releases could backfire. But having long threads of people discussing this issue is also not great for PR.

Maybe and off topic here. Everyone wanting to discuss general communcation issues further, please stop here and head over to e.g. this topic.

Yes, just received this update with provider Youfone (kpn) in the Netherlands.
Update went smoothly.

Just got the .113 update on Proximus

Same here! :tada: Not great that there was such a long delay. Maybe their test pipeline was stuck again? Since so many different providers are suddenly getting the update. I guess we’ll never know.

i hadn’t noticed the update was not available on my phone as well.

just received the notification.

Edit:

update went smoothly,

so far it looks like no change:

I also got it yesterday. I’m probably on the same network as @UPPERCASE, different carrier perhaps. These delays worry me as well. There have been updates that I never received.

@yvmuell Nobody cares if their provider is or isn’t the reason for the delay. We bought a phone from Fairphone and expect them to deliver updates in time, one way or another.

Regardless, even if certain providers might be a reason for Fairphone to delay an update, the delay itself is most probably happening on Fairphone’s side. I highly doubt that the provider has anything to do with this. Before this I had an iPhone. The moment Apple released an update, I got it, immediately. Same provider as I have now. This provider was doing nothing that could possibly slow down the update, and why would they? It’s not their job to test the software on my phone. Likewise my internet service provider is not gonna prevent me from downloading a Windows update for my laptop.

I rather believe info from a provider as a proof they can indeed have something to do with this, than your doubt.

And thats just wrong, even if repeated over and over and over again

I would care so dont generalise. You dont care and thats your decision.

So why are Fairphone updates delayed so often, but never iPhone updates? They don’t test those? Or are Apple updates somehow prioritized?

If the article you linked is correct then it is indeed Fairphone that chooses to provide different builds for different providers, and that’s when delays happen. The question is then, why is that necessary?

I will check in with my provider and ask them to clarify.

Comparing with Apple is comparing with Apples.

I with my provider never in 8 years with FPs ever had a delayed update. While other provider like KPN or Proximus already got updates delayed more than once. So up to you what to interpret.

iPhones are smartphones. Fairphones are smartphones. My Fairphone has replaced my iPhone. It’s valid to compare them.

On my iPhone there hasn’t been a single update delayed in six years. Fairphone’s updates for my phone are delayed all the time, if I receive them at all. This is a problem. It’s up to Fairphone to solve it.

You can compare whatever you like but you should keep in mind that iPhones have a market share of probably >20% in smartphones, whereas Fairphones have a market share of probably <0.01% in smartphones.
So

could well be true…

I got Abuan as an extra language, too. No matter how often I deactivate or deinstall it, it keeps re-appearing. Strange!

How can this be deactivated ultimately?

Something did mess with keyboard and language settings. My multilingual keyboard and spell checker got messed up. At first I thought it was my keyboard’s issue. I use Heliboard.
But then I find these weird suggestions in the phone’s setting.

I assume you have developer settings enabled? Its not a bug

It is an Android standard pseudolocales for developer to check their implementation and these languages appear on all other devices if the developer option is enabled.

Today I learnt. Guess its not related.
Regardless, I did have to dig into some keyboard settings to reenable multilingual typing.
