Hi everyone,

A new software update based on Android 14 is now available to Fairphone 5 users.

Resolved issues

  • Fixed an issue that was causing the finger print and face unlock to not work under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing incorrect apps to open when using the search function.

Other improvements

  • Security patch level: 5th of February, 2025

Update went smoothly.

My FP5 is stuck at the boot screen after trying to update to this version. No modifications were done to the system, so it still has a locked bootloader. I tried to switch the boot slot, but even this isnā€™t allowed, which makes me wonder why there is a 2nd slot at all.
Is there anything I can do to get it booting again (and yes, I donā€™t want my data)?

Remove the battery for one hour and push the power button a few times (to discharge capacitors). Then try to enable it again. I have done the same with the update to Android 14 where I had the same problem. It booted normally with a message that the update failed. I downloaded the update again and it worked after that.
I hope that fixes it for you, too.

thanks xardasjhh for the tip, unfortunately, it didnā€™t helped. I contacted the support, but feedback is promised in 2-3 weeks only.

For sure there is however you could only change slots when the bootloader is unlocked. Nornally after several failed attempts to boot it should fall back to the other slot. So can you boot into recovery or fastboot and from there make at least 7 attempts to boot into system
