Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.16.1.20260220155828 šŸ“²

So you updated directly from the cursed 15.15.2?

Yes, always fearing the phone might brick. So I actually do after installing 15.16.1 in case of restarts, because I need several attempts of long pressing the start-button.

I also had 15.15.2 installed without facing any issues and I still dont think there is any reason to fear a brick for those where the update installed without issues.

As said I dont have issues to reboot my FP by pressing the power button shortly and selecting reboot from the menu.

So you actively reported this to support? Mentioning it here is not sufficient.

How do you do this? I can only access the restart menu by double swipe down and tap the power switch symbol in the lower right corner. I can’t access the restart menu via power button.

Settings > System > Gestures > Press and hold power button
then choose Power menu.

Thank you for your advice! To my surprise, the restart now worked. I’ll have a look on this erratic behaviour.

Is there an official statement why this update is still not available for many users after almost 4 weeks?
Is this to be expected, can it really take that long? I doubt it.
Can we do something about it?
Is Fairphone doing something about it?
How to proceed?

Take this to your provider.

And please: Search & Read before posting. This has been clarified a million times in this forum. Some providers, like Vodafone, Telekom and Proximus, are known to delay updates, sometimes even for months.

A good starting point is

Now getting in to find a person at Proximus who is in charge of this…. That’s the difficult part

I’m gonna try to manually install the update

Mission impossible I’d guess…

But what would be easier to do is to borrow a SIM (different provider!) from some family member/friend/colleague.

If your SIM is an eSIM and thus not removable, simply deactivate it (in Settings/network/SIMs) the time the phone picks up the update. Should only take a reboot. :man_shrugging:

Hello,

Thx. I tried with the sim card (Orange) from my wife. And the update works. I’m going tomorrow to Proximus for a new sim card

It has nothing to do with your SIM card, it is Proximus as your provider blocking the update for whatever reason.

When you used the Orange card of your wife, the phone dropped configuration from Proximus and since Orange has no block, you were able to get the update.

Ok thx. So maybe i have to change to Orange

I talked to ja mobil / congstar and they say they don’t block any updates. They also say that I should try removing the SIM card and check for updates via wifi only.

Still I’m only getting offered an update to version 15.14.4 (I’m still on FP4.TP31.C.0143).

According to the poll at the start of this thread about 25% haven’t received the update (or didn’t update their vote after receiving it?). This sounds more like a general problem instead of providers blocking the update?

I guess the only option left is to manually install it.

This does not work, so again

I understand this approach but several weeks after releasing the update I would expect an official statement including a list of providers for which the update is on hold. Otherwise users will get worried.

Do the providers even tell them? I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that they don’t (maybe they can find out by chasing each provider up individually, but that isn’t something I’d expect them, or anyone, to do routinely for every provider.)

Good question.

I wonder if Fairphone is able to check this by themselves by simply querying the devices and comparing software versions against mobile network providers. This should produce reliable statistics. However I’m not sure if this kind of data is exposed.
