Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.15.2

I asked a couple of questions about the replacement procedure and am still waiting for a response. Questions are whether they ship to my current home address which is still in the EU, but in an area excluded in the shipping policy of their online shop (which also means, in case of need, I couldn’t by spare parts from them). Other questions are whether I may keep my current phone (which is still usable, though impaired), until I have received the new phone and set up everything, and what Android version will be pre-installed. If it’s Android 15, it might feel like groundhog day. Fun fact: They advised me to check if everything is working with the new phone, but not to install any new apps while doing that…

I also asked whether the new release FP4.SREL.15.14.4 will be rolled out to customers on FP4.QREL.15.15.2 and is expected to solve any of my issues. If not, whether Fairphone is working on an update to FP4.QREL.15.15.2 and it’s prospective release date.

Hello
thank you for confirming.

Apologies if that sounded harsh, I have no intention of shaming any update practices, even though the forum taught me to pay more attention than I used to.

It seems your case is indeed similar to the ones that got escalated.

I am tagging the FP Community Manager, @Fairphone_CM
along with your ticket number

No, because that would be a step back, as 15.15.2 is a higher version than 15.14.4, see:

Thanks for the clarification and I understand your point. But then, it’s confusing why a Fairphone representative published this information on a thread dedicated to customers having severe trouble with FP4.QREL.15.15.2 and can’t benefit from all improvements FP4.SREL.15.14.4 might bring.

Please note that 15.14.4 is only a security patch.

Yes, I’m aware of that. I expect that a security patch brings improvements of security, so I fail to see the purpose of your comment. And if it is limited to security issues exclusively, it makes it only more confusing that a Fairphone representative publishes info on a security patch in a thread dedicated to an update on which the security patch cannot be installed and doesn’t address any of the issues caused by the update discussed in this thread.

@Fairphone_CM I’m trying to get my replacement phone past customs but need info on the warranty. Unfortunately nobody at Fairphone seems to be responding to their requests (in this case 1356277)…. I cannot work much longer with an old temporary phone, so need my replacement Fairphone here asap without paying an arm and a leg on custom fees. Can you please address this?

@Fairphone_CM I think I’m affected, too, see FP4 stays black after reboot .

Rebooted yesterday, phone is completely dead. I DMed you my service request id.

Hi @BerndD as described here FP4.SREL.15.14.4 is indeed only a security patch update for users who are still on FP4.QREL.15.14.3 (Android 15) & FP4.TP31.C.0143 (Android 13).

For users who are on FP4.QREL.15.15.2 they are indeed not able to install FP4.SREL.15.14.4.

As shared previously, we are aware of the issues that some Fairphone 4 users on Android 15 are experiencing, and the relevant teams are actively working on fixes. :folded_hands:t2:

I just wanted to mention, that the support and @Fairphone_CM reacted within hours to my case. Despite the mess, this was really excellent.

Hello everyone,

Just a follow-up to my situation (@JBWD97) . After having reviewing my case and my answer to the inital questionary, the support just annonced me that they will send me a new phone (FP4). I’m waiting for receiving it, crossing the fingers that no problem happens until then.

The support always answered to me very quickly for the moment (one day after my mails). @Fairphone_CM is also very reactive. Thanks to them.

Update on my case

Another brick here. My fairphone 4 doesn’t react at all since 25.12.2025

What I tried

  • different cable

  • charging

  • different battery

  • cleaning usb port

  • connecting to a pc

Contacted support and I will send in the phone tomorrow.

Would be happy about another solution to save data and settings…

I contacted a fairphone angel in my city prior to sending the phone in. Together we replaced the cracked display to see if it caused the damage. Replacing to another display didn’t change anything. He borrowed me a fairphone 6, which was handed to the local fairphone community for feedback and reviews. This gave me some time to organise a spare phone. A big thank you to @Volker !

I’ve sent in the phone and my warranty was denied because my display is cracked.

Well it is true. I dropped it two times and it worked fine for years until the software update. I never mind the display cracks.

I have three options now

  • I can get it repaired for 293,86 € (electronic card, display, frame)
  • get it back for 37,38 € (estimate fee)
  • let it destroy for 0 €

I wrote the community manager @Fairphone_CM and he is evaluating currently if it can be rechecked for the software update issue. I hope the warranty will apply eventhough the display looks broken.

In any case one year of pictures of my two little sons are gone. That is the saddest part of the story.

Thanks for sharing the follow-up. Did they send you the replacement phone directly, or do you have to send in your old phone first?

I’m asking because I have also been offered a replacement phone on 6th of January. As my phone is still usable, though impaired since the update, I asked Fairphone support some questions about the replacement procedure on the same day, but until now (12th of January) they haven’t come back to me. So I’m still waiting for a response whether they ship at all to my current home address (which is still in the EU, but excluded in the shipping policy of Fairphone’s online shop), whether I may keep my current phone until I have set up the replacement phone, and which Android version will be pre-installed (hopefully not the Android 15 with which all the trouble started).

My experience is that they will send the replacement before and leave you an appropriate amount of time to test it and set it up.
I received a replacement due to the battery drain I usually have with my device and they were unsure if it was a hardware prob. They leave all the time I need to migrate to the new phone.

Okay, this update bricked my fairphone 4 too. Unfortunately is out of warranty and I now live in Japan. What are my options? I don’t care about a new phone but would like to recover my data.

Well, thank you for confirming what has already been said before. And I was hoping that Fairphone is working on a fix since the day that they have stopped the roll-out of FP4.QREL.15.15.2. Is there a prospective release date for such a fix?

I am sure I have 15.15.2 and my phone is still working, but I am obviously hesitant to reboot now. @Fairphone_CM , will there be an update for this, or should I contact support?
