Tonight, March 16, we are releasing a software update for the Fairphone 3 & 3+.

  • Security Patch Level: 5th February, 2026

  • Update Size (from previous MR): 43.29 MB

I saw that this update is now available on my phone! Thanks for that!

I did have a question regarding the release notes given. It states that unlocking the bootloader is simplified. What has been changed about the unlock process to make it simpler?

I did see a verification step in the description above. Is this a online check or something on the device only?

Updated and all is well. I wonder when will be the last update for the FP3, I am pretty certain the time is coming soon.

I also appreciate your transparency in your last post where you apologised for the delay since the last software update. I was not expecting that, so I only saw it today when I came to seek this post, but little things like this go a long way in building trust with the community. We all suspect if the update is delayed it means there were some issues, but it’s so nice to see official confirmation, someone cares about us!

Unfortunately, this update broke my phone, see the linked post. :sob:

Maybe this is the time to say goodbye to my 5.5yr old FP3+ now?

My FP3+ is still on build 6.A.39.7, so I haven’t been offered the update yet.

I’m on KPN-NL.

Did you try to get the update manually?
Go to the app Settings,
Go to System
tap on update

(I have no Fairphone 3 at hand, so it can be a bit different.)

Yes I tried the manual update several times over the past week, and I just tried it again.

The message is still
“Je systeem is up-to-date”
Android-versie: 13
Android-beveiligingsupdate: 5 december 2025

Give it one more week. It is a staged roll-out so it could be on its way.
