Since Android 15 (FP5.VT28.C.042) my Bluetooth connection with my car drops within minutes

Applied last update to my FP5 to FP5.VT28.C.042 and now my Bluetooth connection in my car drops right after 2-3 minutes, while I’m listening to audiobooks on Audible. Then reconnects again. It was working fine before the update.

This is unusable.

Also I noticed, that the car does not get author and other information right from the phone (though the chapter number does work on Audible).

What can I do?

I guess I cannot revert the update, can I?

If you bootloader is locked, then no (without a factory reset).
If your bootloader is unlocked or if you unlock it (which forces a factory reset) you might try to install an older version. But as the update was afaik a major upgrade, it might be necessary to delete all your data anyway (possibly an older major version has problems with our upgraded data).
So I think your chances are better if you report the problem to support.

Did you test bluetooth connectivity when playing audio from another app to determine if the issue is also occuring?

In the past I’ve experienced issues specific to Audible so it’s worth checking as well as go over the following if you’ve not already:

I’m currently using a FP5 with FP5.VT28.C.042 and listen to audio books and music using xigxag and Deezer as well as podcasts using AtennaPod in my car without any issues.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was using the Nova Launcher with my FP5 and also noticed that it had quite a few issues with the new update — for example, the Overview button was no longer working. So I switched to the default Quickstep launcher to get the Overview button working again and rechecked Audible in my car. Currently, it seems to be working again for a few minutes.

However, to properly close this issue, I should run some more exhaustive tests.

Ok, somehow using Quickstep, rebooting, and setting Nova Launcher again fixed Nova Launcher. I can use the overview button again.

But: the Bluetooth problem remains. I tried again with Audible and Spotify, and in both cases, the Bluetooth connection with my soundbar broke after a few minutes.

Though, I wonder if it’s the Bluetooth system of my car and not the FP5 that’s the culprit?

For example, I wanted to withdraw some cash from an ATM today. So I went to a local bank and used my FP5 with Google Pay via NFC. The ATM instantly crashed and rebooted.
Yes, not the FP5 — the ATM(!). So I went into the bank and tried some other machines. All of the ATMs in the bank crashed and rebooted as soon as I tried to log in using NFC on my FP5. Simply placing my FP5 on the NFC reader pad, brought those ATMs down.

Maybe the Bluetooth system of my car just can’t handle FP5 on Android 15?

This is most odd.

I’m using Google Pay on my FP5 without issue since update.

Since the battery provides NFC related chip, have you run hardware tests using Fairphone app?

In addition, have you shutdown phone and simply removed cover / battery to see all is OK?

The link contains info about safety / other checks etc.

Thanks. I believe the issue lies with the software on those ATMs, not with my phone. I use it for payments in most places without any problems. Some readers do have trouble establishing contact with my FP5, and I still haven’t figured out the ideal placement for NFC to work reliably - but that’s a separate issue.

My real problem is that my car’s Bluetooth disconnects after one or two minutes, which makes it practically unusable. It’s honestly a real bummer - I can’t make calls while driving.

NFC chip is on the battery so on the transparent backed phone that I’ve got it’s very easy to see the area. I find it easier to get quick response if I target the middle third of the phone area which is most of the battery.

Unsure what would be best for you now. Maybe consider a network settings reset? Otherwise it’s a case of getting in touch with Fairphone or look at more trouble shooting.

Yeah, the middle third is usually what I use. However, I’ve attached a knob at the cover in the middle and somtetimes the receiver of the NFC device just is somehow bulky and my knob gets in the way of things.

I’m currently using earphones. So the car’s Bluetooth is not that of a problem anyway.

Just sad.
