On my fairphone with /e/OS I installed Signal app. I would like to transfer my data from my old phone. So I opened Signal on both smarts as instructed and start the process. Both smarts display the correct code which shows correct communication. When I start the transfer, Signal on my fairphone stops and the old phone reports that transfer failed.
The transfer process is sometimes a bit buggy. If you have the option, then I recommend doing a manual backup and restore.
On your old phone go to Signal > Settings > Backup > On-device backup (or similar). Enable backups and write down the backup phrase. Them move the backup file to the new phone.
On your new phone (FP6) launch Signal and select âRestore from backupâ on the welcome screen. Select the backup file and enter the passphrase you saved earlier.
This method seems to be much more reliable. Signal is also reworking backups right now (and introducing beta cloud backups) so maybe thatâs why youâre having issues.
I Tried that, but backup on my old doesnât function. It is marked as bèta and doesnât open.
Maybe that is because I already registered Signal on my new phone. I donât want to reinstall on my old phone because I maybe loose my data there and have nothing left.
By the way⌠this is not the only thing that is buggy. The whole installation of my new phone is a process with bumps.
Relogin on your old phone, you need to remember your signal PIN but it keeps the data of your chats etc. Then a) make a backup file then register on new phone and move it over to the new phone or B) use signal new cloud backup. Signal >> Blog >> Introducing Signal Secure Backups
First of all: during startup there is no transfer possible from old android to my new phone. The documentation is not clear about this and the chatbot Tin states that transfer is possible. But the described steps for transfer do not appear in the process.
Manual transfer of contact doesnât function as described. This is only possible via local export and import. So I could mange that .
Photoâs: I managed to transfer these manually via backup, but they all got the date of transfer, so all my pictures of the past 5 years have the same date nowđŞ.
The notes app delivered on my new phone has an export function, but I donât see an import functionđ¤. So I canât check if export/import from Google Keep would work.
So this is all a bit frustrating. It is a complex process and a lot of work, that is not finished yet. But I have complained enough. Have to deal with the things as they go.
Programms like xnview ( on Windows) can ârepairâ your date/time problem: set date/time of file from the info stored in the photo (exif-data). Or: put date/time in name of file.
