Enjoying the new Fairphone 6.
One problem - when a notification comes in, the screen wakes but is very dark. The screen brightness is normally fine. I don’t see an separate option for the notification brightness.
Am i doing something wrong or should i report a bug?

I haven’t seen the FP6 yet but I would imagine that your notifications are being displayed using AOD rather than actually turning on the screen’s normal lighting. If so, I would think that is the intended behaviour. The idea is that AOD allows you to see whether anything’s happened recently just by glancing at the screen. But if the screen were full “on” all the time you’d have no battery left well before the end of the day!
Presumably all you have to do is to touch the screen for it to display with normal brightness.

I agree that it makes sense to show the notification at a dimmer brightness than normal, but the screen is so dark, you can’t actually see the messages. Needing to touch the screen defeats the purpose.
Sounds like I should raise this with Fairphone.
Not to my mind. The principal object is just to let you know that something has happened. In the old days before the FP4, we had a coloured LED that informed of a waiting notification in the same way. The LED used very little power, so it didn’t matter if it went unacknowledged for a while. Likewise the OLED screen to a certain extent. But you wouldn’t want to have the screen full on for notifications, it would run down the battery.
When receiving notifications, the screen only turns on ever so slightly to the point that I won’t spot it. Almost as if the AOD is enables, which it isn’t. For some reason, Snapchat is the only app that does fully turn on the screen to 100% brightness when getting a notification. I’ve checked all relevant OS notification settings to turn on the screen and also in the apps itself (WhatsApp for example) but nothing seems to help. Running the latest software as of today. Any help from people who experienced the same thing?
I noticed the same thing today. I received a message on Signal and the screen turns on in the lowest brightness possible LED for a second or two and then goes to sleep again. It might as well not turn on TBH, it’s impossible to see what it’s showing during daytime and even in night time I suspect I’d barely have enough time to look at it before it would go dark again.

I have exactly the same problem, after hours of setting notifications on locked screen… I tested with Whatsapp and Google Messages.
I tried to desactivate the adaptative brightness, but it didn’t do anything more.
I have the same issue on my FP6, but I am on /e/OS. Could this be a driver issue?

I’ll respond to that answer.
On iOS, for example, when the screen is off and you receive a notification, you can see it clearly. On the FP6, you can see that something has happened, but honestly, you don’t know any more than that. This is quite problematic because you then have to pick up the FP6 to get an overview of the notifications you’ve received.

Jumping into the conversation. I confirm that there is a clear issue with the FP6 regarding the screen wake up when notifications arrive.
Honestly, this FP6 is a big disappointment: volume buttons located in the middle of the phone, which trigger screenshots all the time, no desktop mode because of a cheap USB-S adaptor and this screen that remains dark, etc.

Having exactly the same feedback as @vmalep .
The volume button location is really a nightmare. Situation has improved as we now have the option to disable screenshot button combination.
BUT! this other issue with darker screen is really impacting me in my daily use of my FP6.
At work, my phone is in vibrating mode only. I could on notifications to be informed that I have something to read, especially from my family. But when notifications come, the screen becomes even darker than my AOD (which I had to enable in the absence of LED…), so I miss them most of the time. And even if I don’t miss them, I cannot read them because the screen is so dark.

Support is not being helpful here. They claim it is about Adaptative brightness (which is not), or that factory reset is required - which I don’t want to do as I would lose everything on my phone for probably no improvement.
First time in my ‘mobile’ life I’m experiencing such basic issues.
Very disappointed by the the phone and the level of support and of consideration.
@oscarv98 , @Maidenhead , @Reybald have you managed to find a solution for this low brightness when notifications come? Experiencing that issue as well.
