Screen rotation error, especially in WhatsApp

I have noticed that screen rotation keeps getting “out of sync” by 90 degrees, evidenced by the buttons on video calls, the other party view and the small view being in the wrong orientation. It remains out of sync for the rest of the call at least.

Why is this happening?

You might try to check your orientation sensor in the test menu which you can reach by dialing *#*#2886#*#*.

Next time the desync occurs I will try this. It’s odd it can get like this.

G-sensor test works. Possible WhatsApp bug?

I don’t know what it is with the Fairphone 5 but for me the behaviour is awful. If I tilt the phone just slightly it rotates the screen way too early (both directions), sometimes leaving the impression it is malfunctioning. But it rather is just way to sensitive I guess.

Yeah. I sometimes just turn off automatic rotation, because it tilts sometimes just when standing and holding the phone to look at it while outside (a case when I typically hold it more “flat”).
Coming from a iphone 11 its a bit frustrating since I didnt have any issue before.

Hmmm… this seems to be entirely the fault of WhatsApp… if you return to a video call (having done something else with the phone while on it), it assumes the phone is vertical. Therefore, if you make sure it is, no problem. Very odd, though.
