Hi!
I was using my Fairphone 3 when the screen froze with part of the screen distorted. After approximately 10 seconds my phone went black and I haven’t been able to turn it on again. Normally when I press the power button the phone vibrates when the turn on process initiates. Now nothing happens. I have removed the battery for a long period of time (over night) and tried to turn it on again, without success. I have tried to charge it but the LED indicating that it receives charge is not lit up.
What can be the problem with my phone? What else can I do to try to get it started?
I’m grateful for any support I can get!
Hi,
It bears the hallmarks of a Sudden Death. The situation is dire but salvageable. But even if you manage to repair it, the phone is on borrowed time.
Let us know if you need more info.
My Fairphone suddenly broke down. Out of nowhere, it stopped reacting. Nor the buttons, nor the screen seem to work. It wasn’t wet, I have tried several chargers (but battery was fine), … What could be the issue?
Hi lotte. Could it be something related to what we call Sudden death?
It does not vibrate nor does the led light up when plugged in.
The solution would be to apply heat to the memory chip by means of an oven or a hot air gun.

Hi Koumilak, it seems to be the case! I guess I’ll visit the opensource tech-lab we have in our city to figure it out. The phone was overheated because of the sun a few days before, might be one of the causes…? Thank you for the tips on the diagnosis and how to fix it!
Wishes
Lotte

Hello dear Fairphone community,
My Fairphone is dead since yesterday. I neither dropped nor spilled water on it. I am running lineage os and have the security patch from 2 Weeks ago on it. It was fully charged and just won’t turn on.
I already tried:
- charging with multiple different power plugs and different cables
- taking out the battery and putting it back again
- waiting and do everything again
I have a new battery (few months old) and didn’t have any issues with my fairphone except some terrible GPS services. When the 80% charging limit was enabled I was only able to charge my phone when shut down.
Do you have any ideas what I could do? I might tear down the whole phone…
If I do so is it possible to access the storage chip with a pc?
I didn’t really backup my phone (I know that was stupid - I actually was already planning a backup
)
BTW: I also can’t access my phone via the Fedora (Linux) Terminal
Thanks for your help

Thank you very much for your reply. I wasn’t aware of the sudden death thing. I am sorry for my bad research on my phone’s issue.
Until yeasterday, my phone worked perfectly. Yesterday in the evening it suddenly turned black. I tought it was the battery, but it didn’t charge (not even the little red dot is visible) and I really don’t know what to do.
