I posted this question some year ago but it never got solved

What did you already do to solve it?
Did you contactsupport ?
Or did you try this to see whether the brightness sensor works …

Screen auto brightness out of function

Install an app which can display the brightness sensor value. It should display different values if you change the light conditions significantly.

When I turn on the “Adapt brightness to conditions”-option, the brightness slide control is still there - which is strange.

It’s not strange, it’s how adaptive brightness works currently …

In contrast to the auto brightness in older Android versions, the display does not change its brightness in the full spectrum (from 0 - 100 %) anymore, but only in a range around the selected brightness value. This should allow the user to set a base value, which yields the most comfortable display brightness in different situations.
