I’ve been using my fairbuds xl without problems for at least over a year now, until they took a bit of damage and the right speaker stopped working. I couldn’t hear any sounds from it except sometimes a rattling sound or something similar so I decided to buy a spare part and since the new version of the fairbuds had already come out, I bought the “new” right speaker to replace it, so I have the old fairbuds from 2023 and the new speaker from 2025.
However, when I go to change it something weird happens: the right speaker works but first of all I can’t find it’s battery (and when I try to charge it, it doesn’t charge), and second of all at that point its the left speaker that stops working.
Did I make any mistakes here? I am sure the right speaker is damaged on the old fairbuds but could it be also/just the cable? And are the batteries supposed to be in the right speaker? Because I can’t find the slot to place them, when I open the case I only see a circuit board, not a slot like the left speakers. Did I receive the wrong product? Thank you to anyone who has some advice.
when advertising the new Fairbuds XL (2025), I vaguelly recall the recommendation to swap both speakers at a time. However I double checked it now and the instruction video says - you can swap just one of them.
finally I believe only the left speaker contains the battery, but now I would leave the floor to users who actually own the device
The USB cable that connects the two speakers sometimes gets disconnected. Double- oder triple-check if it is really clicked in in both speakers (it can be stubborn and tough to get it clicked into place). The cable transfers both sound and energy from one to the other speaker.
as Meaghan suggested, there is only one battery in the whole device (see the video preview picture above)
replacing only one 2023 speaker with a a 2025 speaker might result in a slightly uneven audio experience (the 2025 should have somewhat stronger sound), I have not tested yet (and will not do so on 35°C days ) if it impacts general working (aside from uneven audio), but I guess they should still work.
