Refurbished fairphone 6 in contact with water

Hello, I accidentally dropped my Fairphone 6 into the toilet, but I retrieved it immediately. It was probably submerged for about 1 second. I turned it off fairly quickly. The screen was still working, but I got a message saying that the USB port had been disconnected due to moisture or dust.

I disassembled the Fairphone to wipe away any moisture inside and let it dry.

Inside, the USB-C port looked like this (see photos).

There are lots of white marks, which don’t seem normal to me. The thing is, it’s a refurbished phone purchased directly from the Fairphone website, and it was in contact with water for a very short time.

I have several questions:

  • Do you think these marks are caused by the phone falling into the toilet, or could they have been there before I bought it? (Is it possible for white deposits like these to appear within just two days?)

  • What do you think of its current condition?

  • What should I do to repair it? Should I clean it with 99% isopropyl alcohol? I already took it appart and absorbed the little water that was inside

Thank you so much!!
Please help me, I’m feeling completely lost!!

Fairphone with Google, 6th generation, bought it from Fairphone online shop in France

Welcome to the user forum!!

I would probably share these images directly with fairphone support, as they don’t look entirely normal.

The message that the USB port will not be working immediately after water submersion is fairly normal, since it should be completely dry before plugging in cables again.
With a little search engine research, it does say that these deposits are quitre normal, but should be cleaned as best as possible to avoid further corrosion. I would assume that fairphone WOULD consider these water damage for any warranty claim, but again - that is their decision, not the forum’s :frowning:

just a small side note, if you haven’t seen it yet, there are some useful tips at the waterwiki

Thank you for your help, I’ll try to contact them.

Thanks, I’ll take a look. Its hard to find informations sometimes
