Hi,
For the last year I’ve been having recurring problems with my FairPhone 5 losing connection to the mobile network. For a while it only happened once per week, but it has now gotten worse, and is happening multiple times per day. Restarting the phone doesn’t work, taking out the battery and SIM card has usually been the only way to get back connection. Sadly, even that is now not working anymore, and it makes the phone essentially unusable.
I went abroad for a trip two weeks ago, and then for some reason it worked splendidly! After i returned home it started up again. I’ve tried starting my phone in safe mode to see if it was due to an app, but even then it doesnt detect the SIM card.
What I’ve so far found online about this issue refers to old SIM cards being the problem, but I switched to a new SIM card like 6 months ago, so that can’t be it.
What can I do?
Thanks already for any help!
Hello and welcome to the community forum
Please let us know what further troubleshooting you did (if any) apart from switching a SIMcard
- checking with a different provider SIMs/eSIMs
- contacting your provider
- checking if any SIMcard setting makes any difference
- testing using MyFairphone App
- contacting the CS
Just a thought.
Is your SIM card set to 5G/4G/3G/2G?
If so change it to 4G/3G/2G and see what it does.
Thanks for your reply! My fairphone app currently shows it’s in good health, and can currently find the SIM card. I will check in again later when it’s lost connection again.
I’ve not checked with another SIM, and the provider was unhelpful to say theeast. They said they’d heard this was a FairPhone issue, so that it wasn’t on them.
What SIM settings do you mean? I’ve now set it to 2G/3G/4G as per the other comment - if this fixes it, are there any planned fixes so 5G works?
The question is whether Odido’s network is equally strong everywhere when it comes to 5G.
With the FP6 having some wrong parameter of the APN made one of my sims lose network and get it back quite constantly. Maybe try to reset the APN settings and add them manually with what your operator says.
Hi again, I set it up for 2G/3G/4G, but this morning the phone has lost connection again… Any idea if this means it’s a phone problem or an Odido problem? I will in any case try changing my APN settings to see if that helps. Thanks a bunch for your time!
Hi there,
i don’t use Odido, but i run into the same problem, “no sim card” one or two times a week. As i found no further error on the phone. I ordered a new sim card by my provider two weeks ago and so far the problem was gane.
Maybe you can test with a other sim card?
Regards
Frank
Hi Frank,
Thanks for the tip! I also switched to a new SIM card a couple months ago, and then the problem was gone for a month or so. It ultimately came back, sadly. I hope that will just be an issue for em though, and that you don’t run into it again!
I found out what the issue was, and am adding it here in case it helps anyone else. Turns out I’m a dumdum and I wasn’t clicking in the SIM card properly. If it’s set properly it doesn’t stick out when you remove the battery. Hope this helps someone!
