On my previous phone (Samsung running Android 6) I used Cube ACR to record phone calls. This does not work on my FP5. I have tried serveral other apps with no succsess. Has anyone had any sucsess recording calls using an FP5 running android - other than using a voice recorder whilst using speakerphone?
That is illegal, that’s why nobody is testing that.
It is not illegal with the permission of the other party.
Regards,
Michael
Have you tried the Helper-App yet?
Oh, I did not know that Cube ACR asks before recording.
As it is not legal everywhere its quite difficult to record calls already since some time.
Yes I have tried the ACR helper with no succsess.
My understanding is that in the UK it is not illegal for individuals to record phone calls. What must happen is that if the other party specifically asks you if you are recording the call then you must admit that you are. Failure to admit that your are recording the call - if asked - will render the recording liable to be ruled inadmissible as evidence in a UK court of law.
The rules are different for businesses other organisations.

An update on my attempts to record calls using an App on my FP5:
I have been in dialogue with the providers of the Cube ACR app (Cube Aps LTd). Due to other things getting in the way there was a long pause in my attempts to resolve the issue - during which - the update to Android 14 which is not ideal during a bug investigation. However the process has now concluded with Cube Apps stating that the ACR app is not compatable with the FP5.
Has anyone had any succsess using an app for call recording on the FP5? Preferably either a free app or a one off payment app.
If you have rooted your phone with Magisk, you can use BCR GitHub - chenxiaolong/BCR: A Basic Call Recorder for rooted Android devices, for recording phonecalls. My FP5 works with this magisk module. I have no idea if there is any other app what can record calls when not rooted…
On e/os/ there is an option to manually record calls (record button is on the dialer), without rooting your phone (I am in Europe).
Just make sure it is legal to record calls where you live (in your country)…
Same situation here, I have not upgraded my FP5 to Android 14 for this reason, in A14 the Accessibility API is blocked by Google to third party apps, because they were using this specific API for recording calls with speaker mode on, method I am using now.
Can you please confirm to me that FP team have restricted this API too, or have they not, going against this policy? this matter is important to me, thank you.
SOURCE from a phone dialer developer : [https : / / acr . app (of course remove spaces)] “Google seems to be committed to stop call recording. {…} On Android 14, in order to use Accessibility Service, apps must be installed from a store that utilizes a specific Android API called [REDACTED for relevance]. {…} While this process may seem cumbersome, it is currently the only way.”
It was happening on Android 13 as well.
Hi.
I have fairphone 5 with the stock system.
Upgraded to Android 14.
I want record some calls but I don’t found the option in the app:
phone - settings - call recording
Many android stock have this option.
How can I install it?
Thanks to all.
App works great on my fp4 thinking about upgrading to the fp5 by chance are you using lineage 21 with your Fp5?
I have used FPOS, but now I am running /e/os. I ahve used BCR with multiple devices over the last couple years; on stock roms, lineage and e/os ![]()
Have not tried Lineage yet, perhaps in the near future though…
Interesting I think it will work and ill invest in the Fp5, Thanks for the heads up. My previous call recording app was skvalex call recording but had to use the option to record using the stock record button to get the 2 parties included in the call. This app then transfered it to my external sd card and deleted the call in the internal drive. BCR which i have used years ago and forgotten about it works as expected without having to always click on the record button in call. Thank you for letting me know of its improvement.
Don’t tried, but found GitHub - Benojir/Android-Call-Recorder: Automatic call recorder app for Android (Rooted Device)., is also on IzzyOnDroid Magisk Repository
