Hi!
When browsing through Google Photos for example, all videos are stuttering, they play roughly the first second, then what looks like 1 FPS. This also happens with videos directly recorded on the device. They are plain 1080p/30fps random videos, nothing fancy.
They play well in VLC, but other players seem to not have hardware-acceleration (I’ve tried the one in Google Files, Google Photos, and Nova Player).
I hope that this is a software issue which will get fixed in one of the next updates.
I tried contacting the support but “video playback” or similar does not exist in their categories and their predefined answer to everything is “wait for a software update.” The live-chat seems to only reply with AI generated slop.
Same problem here. Even self made Videos are like way slower then slow motion or not even play at all (felt). Why releasing a phone when this is not working is behind my comprehension. Video watching or making is one of the basic things to have on a mobile.
So it’s any and all video players except VLC, is that it?
On what version are you, stock or /e/, or other?
What happens when you flush the cache from the app?
For me, it’s any video on FP OS FP6.QREL.15.91.0 (so, not the /e/ version). Google Photos, Reddit, Fedilab (a mastodon client), any browser (Firefox, Ironfox, DuckduckGo, Vivaldi).
Clearing the cache did not help.
Is it possible you’ve deactivated something, some google component?
Did you try Chrome (webview in general) or other clients (like youtube or newpipe) ?
I have FP6.QREL.15.84.0 since July 4,
I use Firefox, but the problem occurs on Chrome as well.
Any video basically, Also videos I took to test this problem.
I did deactivate Gmail, Google TV, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Messages (the Google app), Google Keep, and the stock YouTube app.
The developer settings tell me, that I’m using the WebView implementation 137.0.7151.115.
Hallo,
I have a problem when playing videos, no matter which one I play, whether it’s from Whatsapp, Insta, or adverts from apps.
every video stutters so badly that it’s not even possible to play a 10 second video.
When I restart my FP6 it works again without any problems, but only for a short time, then I have the same problem again, do you have the same behaviour?
I have installed the latest version and all the apps in the Playstore are up to date
Just watched some Minutes of “Jon Stewart on Who Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Really Helps — and Hurts | The Daily Show” on YT app and on Duck Player with no problems at all.
Also absolutely no problems when playing a video with “Dateimanager+ Video Player”.
All Google apps are installed but hidden in my launcher.
I have the Same Problem, any Audio or Video hast Problems working. If i turn in flight mode for some Seconds and try again, mostly IT works. IT is realy annoying.
After your comment, I wanted to check the Chrome version and it was outdated. So I’ve updated via Google Play and it worked afterwards but it failed after some time.
I don’t want Chrome on my phone, so I’ve deactivated it.
I have no idea, because I don’t have an FP6… but, seeing that it happens in many different situations, it could be that the problem is not the video playback but the screen refresh?
Does it happen with other animated elements like games? Have you tried changing any settings related to the screen refresh (power saving, refresh rate…)? Just to suggest something, I have no idea about this problem.
Hi! I have the same problem. Discovered it on Instagram. All the “miniature” videos work just fine, but as soon as I go into “fullscreen” the videos start stuttering like crazy. Like they play at 1 frame every 2 seconds.
The only fix I found was restarting the phone. Sometimes there are framerate issues that are more easily solvable, like by locking and unlocking or manually switching back and forth between refresh rates in the settings. But this fullscreen video stutter seems harder to get rid of.
