Random Screen dimming (while brightness slider stays at 100%) after A12 update

you could have collected 10 or 20 faulty phones one year ago by just offering the owners a hazzle free replacement. then analyzing those phones, find the root cause and do the work you are apparently doing now, one year later.

By the way this was first reported, as in this topic on 6th Feb so only just over 4 months nowhere near a year ?? And this topic is not a support request . . .

If Fairphone took back phones they would wipe them and hence they would not represent the users use etc.

@amoun , My aspect was regarding the ghost touches which were discussed here as well. and the thread on that is very very old.

taking back phones and wiping them would not remove the hardware issue which the ghost touches are so my proposal would have been helpful.

sorry for hijacking, but yasenā€™s post here was the first time a FP person said something to the ghost touch issue.

OH! thatā€™s more scary, you could haunt other places, but there are so many and Fairphone are not the only ones with haunted hones and fouses.

Still if you prefer to hang around with those you are familiar with see

And please, please rollback the adjustment of the automatic brightness. With this change the brightness problems began:

  • Phone unusable in dark environment
  • Phone unusable in bright Environment

thx for that, I appreciate the update and your effort to increase engagement with the community. I honestly think that if fairphone worked more on building a community, including opening your dev repos to the public, that you actually could profit from that. Look at what nextcloud is achieving for example. Just a thought.

We should not use this forum to attack devs who try to be transparent and give us information. I am frustrated as well, and I agree that this is not the answer we wished for, but that is no reason to be disrespectful. It seems to be a difficult issue to solve and it is not one persons fault or responsibilty (I hope). Letā€™s hope that Faiphone directs enough people and ressources to the issue to fix it asap.

If A12 seems to be the problem, maybe pushing for quick A13 upgrade might be a solution? Regarding the idea to soft downgrade to A11, I donā€™t think that is even possible due to downgrade safeguards in Android, though I am not sure if they are dependent on specific hardware. Even if not, soft downgrades are generally a mess.

From my experience I also donā€™t think that the issue is caused by temperature or proximity or lighting. Screen dimming for me seems to happen independent of lighting (even happens in dimly lit rooms) or temp (also happens in air conditioned environments). However, it seems to correlate with how processor intensive the app is. For example, when starting more demanding apps like games or electron apps, the screen reliably dims in less than a minute after starting the app, again independent of lighting or ambiaent temperature, and the time is too short to have a significant influence on the phones temperature. So maybe it is some processor / throttling / power management thing. Idk.

Yes, it could be.
If you check the previous log that I have attached the triggered sensor is quiet-therm-usr.
Found on Google some specs for a Xiaomi device and apparently this sensor is related to battery and CPU also.

When you open an intensive app, since the phone has a passive cooling system, if the threshold has been set too low it will be triggered soon.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi everyone,
I can see this has been discussed before. But this really is an issue because I use the phone also as my navigation device. So the screen in combination with the light and/or the sun becomes virtually invisible.
Any solutions known for this?
Thanks

Hi. Noting your post has been moved to the main topic and that you note there has been a discussion on this, hopefully you will have or will read the above, well some of it as it is a bit long in the tooth.

Maybe read the last 20 or 30 posts and if you have something to add that could usefull continue here.

The only other option is to contact support@fairphone.com with an official request for support, else just wait and check this topic now and then

Well, there is no solution available soon so I am forced to sell my FP4. Which is a shame, because I totally support the mission of Fairphone. But the phone must work.

Have you contacted Fairphone officially? Iā€™m pretty sure they should refund if they cannot fix it.

Thatā€™s not a bad thought. I should still have warranty. But even if not, I wonder, if the manufacturer renders your device unusable or reduces the usability that you initially payed for through updates, wouldnā€™t that actually warrant a refund anyway?

So I guess, if they canā€™t fix the issues they introduced and I decide to ditch the FP4 Iā€™ll actually try to return it and get my money back. I mean, itā€™s not my fault that they botch their software and canā€™t fix it. I shouldnā€™t have to pay for their mistakes.

Fairphone Support offered me an RMA.

Still not fixed in the beta released this Friday. At least thatā€™s what FP say. Iā€™ve been using the phone outdoors a bit and havenā€™t faced the issue, though. But it wasnā€™t extensive testingā€¦

I believe it has to do with the temperature of the phone. In my car where I use it as my nav it happens after a few minutes already with the current heat whilst in de evening not at allā€¦

In case anyone else wants to know when a solution to this arises but doesnā€™t want to be spam-notified about everyoneā€™s responses, you could watch or track

for now.

Do continue to contribute what you think here, though. I donā€™t want to stifle discussion here. We wonā€™t ascertain the underlying issue with silence.

I just think Tracking is too little, whereas Watching is too much for my usecase, and perhaps some of yours.

You may be correct

Lol this must be a joke. Never experienced sth like this. I wonder if they ever will get this fixed. Maybe in winter after everyone has tormented themselves with the problem through the bright season.
