Quite troublesome…
Haha I must leave at least 20 characters to be able to send this message funny …
I noticed that this problem has occurred after the last update …. Not before , it wasn’t there
I experienced this with Poco F3, where it was a safety “feature” to prevent burn-in in hot conditions. It had OLED though, so it kind of made sense. The phone also had other problems (e.g., green tint), so I decided to return it and wait for FP4. And here we go again…
Just bought a new fairphone and have this issue, second I walk into bright sun the screen dim so much I can’t see it anymore.
Hi and welcome to the forum
Of course you can return the phone for a refund, if still within 30 days, and say you will buy one when fixed
I was afraid that my display was broken but I am happy on the one side to figure out its a software bug. On the other side, looking at the date of this post, its frightening that nothing happened so far. This is a major and extremely annoying bug! Please, fix it asap. Thank you!
sorry for you guys @Done and @MortenMacFly . unfortunately you cant expect this to be solved soon. 50% Chance that summer sun is gone before the bug is being solved. Fairphone isnt caring too much about their users. some bugs arent being solved before one year has past.
pls. open tickets and be annoying. thats the only chance we have it seems.
Hi and welcome to the forum
This is a user forum, ‘we’ are not going to fix it.
You may like to submit a support ticket to Fairphone , to add to the weight of complaint, though it is being looked at as far as I can see from other posts
I have taken your advice and opened a ticked with their Support department
It seems as if Fairphone employees don’t use Fairphone themselves, otherwise the bug would have been fixed long ago. Almost 5 months since Android 12 was out and this problem is known and still no fix in sight.
The screen lighting behaves weirdly. It suddenly goes darker, but the indicator still shows 100 %. When that happens, it’s very hard to use the phone in a light environment. Then, just as suddenly, it goes lighter again. I have asked in a Swedish community, and I am not the only one experiencing this. What can be the problem? (And after the latest update, the night light is totally bright again , pls fix that back to dark!)
Hi and welcome, have a look above its a known issue with no solution (yet). And just for the record: the forum is no official support contact with Fairphone, for official support please contact them as indicated here contactsupport
If I’m not mistaken, CalyxOS is on Android 13. Is the bug still persistent there? Anybody knows?
See above. Seems to be a firmware issue as custom ROMs are affected too.
Could everybody having this issue and using a custom ROM please state which Android version they run?
I’m on eOS and A12. My phone has this problem but, since I do not remember having experienced it until a few months ago, I would confirmit that could be the 12 upgrade.

Not when I last used it, although that was before the release of the a12 stock ROM (not that that should matter based upon our current understanding of the issue).
yes it is. the bug is in the fairphone firmware which is also used by custom roms. Doesn’t matter on which android version the custom rom is, it still uses the fairphone firmware blobs and those have the bug.

calyxos 4.10.2
android 13
Platform: June 5, 2023
Kernel: June 5, 2023
Vendor: May 5, 2023
Firmware: May 5, 2023
The problem comes from the proprietary Vendor/Firmware parts you need to make the hardware work. And fairphone is always at least a month behind with their patches. The bug is present in every custom rom.
Have you tested it on bare metal yourself, @R2D2?
